Superb pub. Very friendly staff and customers. The bar servery space is quite limited and this is reflected in the choice of drinks available, while they seem to have something for everyone, if you are used to places where choice is pretty much endless this is probably not for you. Upto 5 real ales seems to be the main thing, otherwise on keg is Guinness, strongbow and a couple of lagers (amstel and carling I think ) . There is a limited wine list and 'top shelf ' non alcoholic drinks choice is also quite limited. Food is available 12 til 2.30 and again from 5 til 9 but not 7 days. The menu is unusual, lacking normal pub staples such as steaks , but interesting and varied at good prices. I believe the menu can be viewed on the website, there is no specials board but they try hard to accommodate variations. Accommodation is, again, at a good price though not all rooms are ensuite and storage space could be a problem for longer stays if the room we were in is anything to go by. Also it can be noisy, if you prefer to retire early, and the walls seem to be very thin so it's important to remember that this is a pub should you choose to stay overnight, and the breakfast is worth it! The only other thing is that because of where it is there is no car park, it's the side of the main road I'm afraid, but the road is quite wide and not too busy for an A road so don't let that put you off. I seriously considered a 5 star rating but the few things I've mentioned that are unfortunately beyond the control of the proprietors in the main, have reduced it by a star. I get the impression that this is a work in progress and they are doing very well.

Absolutely magnificent traditional alehouse, beers are always bang on form and the food is absolutely tremendous. Definitely one of my favourite pubs in the entire Holme Valley area of Huddersfield. Beer garden is a lovely place to be in the warmer months too.

Very enjoyable evening here. Couple of beers in the garden followed by food after which was great. (Chicken and chorizo pie for me and minted lamb meatballs pizza for Mrs P!) Staff were all lovely and it was just the right level of busy

On Saturday we came for a meal out courtesy of a meal voucher we’d received as a gift from our daughter in NZ. We don’t get out much … but had come for a meal before Xmas and realised then what a lovely gem of a local pub this is. Just wanted to say, ‘Thankyou’ again, for a lovely experience and unbelievably high quality food. Staff are so friendly and welcoming, and the whole pub has a real home/community feel to it. We had the best night out and walked home feeling really relaxed, well fed and happy. Looking forward to...

First ever Visit after traveling past many times. I was very surprised how small the place is! Great atmosphere though, very well decorated and good layout. We booked a large table which put us in a room at the back, I have mixed feelings about this as it was nice to have our own space, the kitchen entrance was in the same room so bustling traffic was coming through constantly and if the door was left open, it was freezing! Food was fantastic though, I had a parmy and although a little well done...
