Waterloo Fish and Chicks — Restaurant in Kirklees

I genuinely can’t recommend Waterloo Fish and Chicks enough!

My partner had initially ordered via Just Eat for delivery and after the order showed as delivered (and our food was missing) we checked Just Eat. To our shock we had put our address down but forgot the all important house number. To make matters worse her contact number was out of date as well.

After a mad panic and scramble (and hungry stomachs) I called Waterloo F&C and was told the driver tried calling us and the food had been returned and was sitting in a bag with the hopes we would be in touch. Since we had already inconvenienced the staff, I said I would drive down and collect our food feeling bad about the ordeal.

Expecting a bit of awkwardness given the circumstances, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was greeted by a huge warm smile and to my absolute shock our order being completely remade as they didn’t want us to reheat the food/ receive food that wasn’t fresh.

I’m near enough certain I’ve never ushered the words ‘thank you’ more in my life. They really went above and beyond and didn’t need to (given it was our fault), to top it all off they didn’t ask for anything in return, we even got fresh drinks as the previous ones had been in the bag with the hot food.

It’s not the first time we’ve ordered from here, personally we find it to be the best chippy in the area and after this experience I will not hesitate in my go-to chippy in the future.

When I got home the food was just fantastic, the fish was fresh and crispy, the chips were light and fluffy and the sauces and sides were just brilliant.

I don’t often leave reviews unless I’m really impressed but this experience has really topped my leaderboard of overall service and exceeding expectation.

Highly recommended, very good food and huge portions for the price. It's one of my choices as I live in Almondsbury every time when I'm crossing Wakefield Road. That time, i had to order as I was going on a trip back in my home country.

Thanks to that kind woman, I asked her for some scraps, salt, and cutlery as I didn't want to wash mine again before leaving my home!

Edit: I've tried chicken bites too. Very good portion for the price, absolutely VFM!

A super high quality fish, chicken and chip shop that cooks to order with vegetable oil. Fabulously dry and crisp batter, beautifully cooked and the portions are really generous at a very competitive price. Cannot recommend highly enough. The team working there are really friendly and provide an excellent service. Delivery is for cooked to order food so it should arrive hot and fresh and ready to eat whether collected or delivered.
