I went here for a family meal. The pub looked nice and the service was ok. As for the food it wasn't the best. The garlic mushroom starter was bits of mushroom in a cream sauce that don't taste of much. I had a burger for my main I cut into it and it wasn't cooked and was cool to touch. The chips were cold on all 3 meals. The veg was over cooked on the roast dinner. The chicken and mushroom pie was over cooked and had no filling really. I was disappointed and wouldn't go back or recommend.

This is our first visit to the White Gate. It won't be our last. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and our waitress Krystal was very pleasant. It's dog friendly and she was very attentive to our anxious puppy. There is outside seating if you prefer and a lovely view. The toilets were clean and a basket of ladies essentials was a lovely little touch. A leisurely and relaxed way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.

A lovely pub. Amazing staff, delicious and reasonably priced food. We had liver and onions and Chile con carne, I only wish there would be a larger selection of real ales. There's always a blonde and a bitter on which is nice though. Highly recommended for a bite to eat and a drink while in the area!

Disappointing Experience – Unsure How This Has So Many Positive Reviews.

We had been wanting to try The Whitegate Pub for a while after seeing so many lovely reviews and hearing positive comments on local Facebook groups about the food and friendly staff. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected.

To start, the glass bottle of water brought to our table had mould all around the top and visible spores inside, a huge hygiene concern. The waitress serving us was clearly in training but seemed to have been left to manage alone without proper guidance, which was unfair to both her and the customers.

The glasses we were given were dirty, with visible lipstick marks and fingerprints. They felt like they were stuck to the table when we tried to pick them up, which was very off-putting.

As for the food, it was extremely underwhelming. The fish and chips came in a much smaller portion than expected, the fish was slimy, and the chips were dry. The chicken Kiev lacked any real garlic flavour and felt bland. The mushy peas were also dry and unappetising. Only one meal out of our group was somewhat decent, but even that wasn’t anything special.

We were not just the only people unsatisfied, another table nearby also appeared unhappy and complained to staff during their visit.

We left feeling disappointed and honestly confused about the great reviews. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day, but the overall cleanliness, service, and food quality really let the...

Terrible.... it used to be nice until it changed owners.

We went 3 months ago and ordered steak and ale pie ... the pie came and had ZERO meat in it (I ripped it apart to see nothing but onions and gravy). The manager (Mark nelson) tried telling me it was there (pointing to onions lol) ... we changed the order to burgers and they were ok.

3 months later we have decided to return and ordered chicken curry and a burger meal.

The curry came and when my friend put the first piece of chicken in her mouth she spat it straight out. IT WAS RAW! Bright pink and slimy! .... I quietly called the waitress over and she apologised profusely as she could clearly see the chicken was raw (open 3 pieces) she returned the curry to the kitchen....

THIS IS WHERE THE MANAGER MARK NELSON comes out again ....

He immediately claimed the chicken wasn't raw and it was fine once it got to the kitchen... I told him not to lie and don't call me a liar because the waitress saw it all.

He carried on claiming the chicken wasn't raw (IT CLEARLY WAS!)

THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THE PLACE IS THE MANAGER . He refuses to accept responsibility for anything.

Needless to say we definitely will not...

The lady behind the bar is lovely and efficient. They have a large menu and this is well priced. We had a long wait for our main course but this was due to somebody stealing a member of staffs phone and the staff dealing with that. The lady that served our food was very apologetic and offered us free drinks. We thought that was a lovely touch and we declined as it wasn't necessary. The chips were gorgeous and home made . The peas were cooked well. For £5.95 you couldn't go wrong really. The only thing was last time we came the chicken goujons we out of this world. This time they were like supermarket frozen goujons so I was a little disappointed but for the price what could I expect?! I would rather pay more and get the battered goujons though. All in all a lovely place to visit and we...
