Gerry Wong's — Restaurant in Knowsley

I've been eating food from this chippy for over 20 years now - before it was GW's. . .

Ended up calling in there last night about 7.30pm. It was -2°C and the warmth was a welcome relief from the Christmas cold outside as I'd walked there. I hadn't used this place for months.

Greeted with a cheery smile from the girl behind the counter! I ordered fish&chips but had to wait ten mins for a freshly fried fish - no problem!

Whilst I was there the delivery guy absolutely loaded up his van with tons of food - so they're busy! Several customers happily came and went with their food with no problems.

"Fish&Chips! - Salt&vinegar Mate?" err "yes please and a carton of curry".

Off I went - got home, stuck Strictly on and tucked in. Fish was huge and cooked beautifully- deep crispy crunchy batter. Fish was white, moist and flaky- not too greasy. Chips were nice! Not warm ups, good size portion with the right amount of salt&vinegar - classic fish&chips done perfectly!

What I'm getting at here is this place is okay. The food is nice and the staff are great. I've never had an issue personally. I don't know anybody here - I just pop in every few months. Yes, I've had deliveries, also no issues there. Also I noticed a review saying it was dirty! If you care to check Knowsley Borough Councils hygiene rating for Gerry Wongs it's actually stated as a 4 which is 'good' and therefore compliant with food standards regulations.

So, over the years from here my favourite meal is Duck Ginger Spring Onion with boiled rice, incredible flavour and plenty of duck! The Salt&Pepper Chicken is nice too. Oh and Fish&Chips of course. Worth a try and if you don't like it, there's a million other chippys in Kirkby 👍🏼 - probably too many...

Food was awful and barely warm. Looks like they batch cook egg fried rice. I had one little bit of egg in it. Chicken balls were a mess. Very tough and soggy batter like they’d been cooked hrs ago. Would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this place. Lucky for me I was only visiting the area on work so I’ll certainly find other places in the future. Awful service and very dirty inside. Giving this a 1 star as they don't let you select zero! Literally just had a delivery it came within 15mins of ordering which I thought was quick when I started eating I realised why!
