Railway Inn — Restaurant in Lichfield

We had rang a couple of weeks in advance to book a table for a family meal and asked what the menu would be, told it would be a Sunday Roast plus a small selection off the main menu. Arrived on the day to be told it was only a Sunday Roast due to the main chef being on holiday. Nevermind we thought but then when a table arrived after us they seemed to be able to order whatever they wanted! Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Then when it came to pay they messed up the bill and we were told that it was our fault. As a final insult they even overcharged us! It was meant to be a family meal for a special birthday but the poor service and unprofessionalism of those in charge spoiled the occasion. We had booked a table for 4 on Friday 13th ! And had 4 excellent main meals at the Railway ! all the meals were fresh and hot we had excellent fish chips and mushy peas / a vegetable chilli and garlic bread and had chicken Alfredo which was really tasty and had so much chicken in it ! I had the sea bass and can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had anywhere ! and it’s my go to usual choice so I’ve had this at different places . The staff were really attentive also. I gave 4 stars for atmosphere as the giant tv was on … only showing a static picture but I think is unnecessary and the ladies toilets are very clean but look quite shabby paintwork wise and my husband said the gents were pretty awful also! Went with a party of friends for lunch, the food was very tasty and piping hot and the pub was clean and tidy also there is plenty of parking. Alan the landlord has only been there a few months and deserves to do well in his venture, he was lovely and very attentive and during our meal he came to make sure everything was ok for us which was nice. Only one of the party lived in shenstone the rest of us had to travel but intend to go back in the next couple of months we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
