Lovely local pub that’s welcoming to both the folks that live nearby and those that aren’t regular faces. I come here perhaps more than I should because it’s got a great vibe. I like when it’s quiet because I can enjoy a glass of wine and relax with the dogs. I like when it’s rammed because of the upbeat atmosphere. I mentioned my dogs - this pub is super dog friendly, landlady Paula often has treats for them. Since Paula and Mick took over, the place has had a bit of a makeover, really nicely done inside and also the outside space down the side that used to be a car park is now a seating area. They kept a little car park at the back. The rear room is child friendly. The whole pub cosy in the winter or when it’s pouring with rain (nothing like hearing rain on the extension glass room but being in the warm and dry with a drink.) They have a load of games stacked up by the bar fireplace that you’re welcome to use. Pizzas and “munch” always excellent and really good vfm. I’ve been here with a vegan friend who said the vegan options were great. Tuesday night quiz is usually busy - book a table in advance (and don’t mind those mega clever Korean Meatballs, just shoot for second place instead as it’s...
Read moreAfter taking a break from this pub due to the previous management, I visited last night after work and was very impressed with the ambiance, food and great Guiness.
This really in pub terms the equivalence of an Oasis. It's like an English country pub, but in Croydon. The vibe is relaxed with enough people to create a good atmosphere, without the craziness of other Croydon pubs. To eat, the had the stew which at £8.50 was amazing value, the main menu is pizza. To drink we had Guiness which was excellent, the wine selection is very good as well. The service was excellent, both efficient and friendly. The other customers, who seemed to be locals, were friendly and welcoming, but not imposing so we could enjoy our drinks and food at our table, and when going to the bar talk and meet other locals.
Highly recommended for those who like pubs as pubs, not flashy wine bars, or sports bars, great food and drink, served well by friendly people with a local vibe, but not cliquey. For sure, we will be...
Read moreWe recently moved to the area after a number of years of being away, we weren’t too familiar with the area and we’re scoping out the local bars and pubs as one of the reasons we moved was to have abit more of a local night/evening life outside of the house.
We came across the crown and sceptre before we moved to the area but only drove past during the summer and it looked lovely, especially with the amount of outdoor seating and foliage adorning the front of the building.
Since moving, it has become our favourite local and must show to friends and family who visit. It’s warm and friendly atmosphere makes it very welcoming. Brilliantly furnished and in keeping to the age and style of the building.
Nice variety of drinks and the pizza menu is great value for money and fantastic quality. Perfect for when you don’t have time for cook or fancy a meal out.
Dog friendly too!
Can’t wait to experience it in the summertime, believe it would be an...
