Disappointing Sunday Lunch at GupShup
I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at GupShup for Sunday lunch was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it.
We had visited this restaurant once last year on a recommendation for a quick bite, and while it was just okay back then, this time was a complete letdown — both in terms of food and service.
When we arrived, we waited at our table for about 15 minutes before being told that we needed to order and pay at the counter. That would have been fine if someone had informed us upfront, instead of leaving us sitting there without any guidance.
There was a large group dining at the same time, and it felt like the entire attention of the chef and staff was focused solely on them. As a result, we — and presumably other smaller tables — were completely ignored. No one checked in with us, asked how our food was, or even acknowledged our presence after we ordered.
And the food? Extremely underwhelming. We ordered the mixed pakora, samosa chaat, noodles, and a few other items. Most of it arrived lukewarm, as if it had been sitting in the kitchen while orders for the large group were prioritized. Some dishes, like the pakora, were cold, and the potatoes in the chaat were undercooked.
When we politely complained, the staff casually said, “Okay, let me get this replaced,” with no real apology or follow-up. The lack of care and interest in our experience was incredibly frustrating.
Overall, this visit was unpleasant and disappointing. We were on our way to Ilford — an area full of great Indian dining options — and honestly regretted stopping at GupShup. Even if they offered something complimentary, I wouldn’t return. There’s absolutely nothing worth...
Read moreI would certainly avoid this place.
The only good thing about this place was the decor.
We were a party of 9 people, mixture of adults and children.
The food took forever to come, there were only two kitchen staff.
Eventually after 35 minutes our order arrived, so I thought but was only part of it.
We finished eating that and waited another 25 minutes for the halwa puri to arrive, the puris were not even cooked properly.
The kids order did not even arrive which was a Nutella roll and milkshake, I had to go and ask and then after a further 15 minutes this arrives, no apology and Nutella roll was nothing special, just a chapati with Nutella spread on it, tasted horrible.
The tea, pink tea, cappachino we ordered did not come either, until I had to ask again, 10 minutes after the karak chai comes, no pink tea or cappachino for that we had to wait another 12 minutes.
The pink tea finally arrives but was no pink tea at all, it was a different colour, we were told they did not put pink colour in there, but tasted awful and nothing like pink tea. We sent it back.
The mix non veg thaal was last to come, small portions, dissapointing.
The paratha was not even a paratha it was chapati and that was not even cooked properly. We sent it back.
They couldn't even cook a chapati properly!
We were very disappointed and dis satisfied, the service was extremely poor, and slow, the food was not to expectations and the chapati and puri were uncooked.
We arrived at 13.00 and left at 15:00, that's how long it took from taking the order to leaving the place.
Overall 30 minutes went into eating the rest 1hr and 30 mins was just waiting.
No discount or refund was...
Read moreI recently visited Gup Shup, and I have to say, it was one of the best café experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel right at home. The ambiance was cozy yet lively, perfect for catching up with friends, having a quiet coffee, or even getting some work done.
What truly made this visit special was the outstanding customer service provided by Wahaj and Arshia. They were both incredibly welcoming, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure that my experience was nothing short of perfect. Wahaj, an old friend of mine, was working there, and seeing him in his element was great. His enthusiasm, professionalism, and friendly nature made the experience even more enjoyable. Arshia was equally wonderful, making sure every detail was taken care of with a smile.
Now, let’s talk about the food—absolutely amazing! Every dish was packed with flavor, made with fresh ingredients, and beautifully presented. Whether it was the perfectly brewed coffee, the delicious snacks, or the heartier meals, everything was top-notch. You could tell that a lot of care and effort went into preparing each dish.
Overall, my visit to Gup Shup was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and incredible service made it a place I will definitely be visiting again. If you’re looking for a café with a friendly vibe and top-quality service, this is the place to be. Highly...
