As a regular I found customer service to be severely lacking. I went for a cigarette leaving my half drunk pint and my box of cigarettes on the table to reserve my seat. When I came back in the pub my stuff was cleared. When I approached the bar to find out what happened I was met with a very defensive manager who said she didn’t do it and then asked her staff and no one said they cleaned that table. While this was happening I asked the if they could look in the bin for my cigarettes. This he found. Thus showing my table had been cleared. All I wanted was was cigarettes back and my half drunk drink replaced. But I was met with an aggressive attitude and unable to admit fault despite growing evidence that they had cleared the table despite not admitting to it. I was subjected to a rant about being a disagreeable customer because I said”don’t be pedantic you may not have cleared it yourself but one of your staff did.”The manager then took offence to this quite normal language. Saying if you’re going to call me pedantic I won’t talk to you! Really! Unbelievable you wouldn’t talk to a new customer like this. Just because were regulars doesn’t mean we can be treated l like this. She then said I don’t know what you want me to do? Really just admit you took pint and cigarettes. I have have cigarettes from your bin so you definitely cleared the table and just replace the drinks. One of the other bar staff suggested this and that would have calmed the situation had it been suggested earlier! I was then told it wasn’t a full pint so was only give half pint back. Fine it was only about a half that got taken. But given the attitude and tone of the manager at the time I felt like I was under the Spanish Inquisition. All for your staffs mistake that was handled terribly. The service I received post this incident was very frosty and childish. Not the type of professional hospitality I’d expect from a junior member of staff let alone a manager. I did say I I’d be leaving a review about this. The on duty manager responded with “crack on” is this really how managers are trained to deal with valid customer complaints!? I was shocked and appalled by...
Read moreWhat a great time we had with our family and friends on Christmas Day.
We’d booked midday for twenty (including nine children ages between 11-2). Tony was excellent he’d reserved an area to accommodate us. This enabled us to move freely around our tables without impeding other diners.
To be honest, I was very nervous about booking Christmas dinner, we hadn’t done this for many years. My fears included being rushed to finish each course, together with the quality of the food.
I was so pleased that my fears were completely unfounded. When we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and shown to the tables. After we’d sorted out our drinks, we were asked if it was okay to begin serving. After each course, the team cleared our servings and presented the next.
Even when there was some confusion when some of us couldn’t recall what we’d preordered, the team were patient and accommodating, ensuring we were promptly served.
One of our expected guests was unable to join us, the team offered to produce the food and pack to take away.
The food was all served hot and was to a very good standard. The pub remained busy throughout our visit but never felt cramped or got too loud.
I can only say that the whole party had a wonderful time and we will definitely be booking (early) for next year.
Well done Tony and his team,...
Read moreThe Leather Bottle has been a pub I’ve frequented for many years and having just undergone refurbishment, I was keen to re-visit. Entering the pub this Sunday, 16.06.2024, I wasn’t disappointed by the new decor. William Morris and Wimbledon tennis had been acknowledged in the new look which was smart and inviting. However, having arrived at 2:45pm, my husband and I had planned to eat straight away and tried to place our food and drink order together upon arrival, only to be told the kitchen couldn’t take any more orders until 4pm. Deciding to wait, we ordered drinks. At 4pm we placed our food order. The food finally arrived at 5:40pm; almost three hours after we first tried to order. The food was OK, but my husband’s chips were only just warm. It was Fathers Day, there were three games of the Euros on the TV and the pub was very busy, but surely common sense says to ensure there are enough staff employed to cope with demand? A three hour wait for food is totally unacceptable. I’m very disappointed in the new Leather Bottle and won’t be returning...
