Decided to go to the Lord Nelson today with some family members. Really always liked this pub but not today. It was my birthday and I have been recuperating after surgery so it was lovely to go out and wanted to have a nice lunch. It was explained to the staff about some surgery i recently had and due to this I had some dietary requirements. Really could not of been less helpful. I asked for a veggie burger if this could be served with a jacket potato instead of chips. The attitude was the kitchen said no. Basically it comes as per menu. There was no indication of wanting to help or understanding. I would have been happy with a piece of chicken and jacket potato..... Why could you not simply swap the chips for jacket potato? As I can't have fried food? I have never been anyway where the kitchen staff are so unhelpful or unable to cater for something so simple as to swap chips for a jacket potato. I ended up having a jacket potato with baked beans, portion was small with a small helping of baked beans, jacket potato over cooked and hard. This is not how I remember the Lord nelson pub. I asked the bar staff if they had new management, this was met with a frosty response basically saying they have no management there at the moment, they were in between managers! So thanks to the Lord Nelson for spoiling my birthday lunch I had been looking forward to especially after recuperating. I used to come here often, so not any more. Very poor atmosphere won't...
Read moreMy partner and I went to the Lord Nelson for the first time yesterday. I was working in the area (I live not too far away), so we decided to go for lunch. We’d not been there before but an old school friend of my boyfriend is a regular there and we can see why!
It’s a proper pub (not too many of them left!) and a beautiful building. My boyfriend LOVES a pub, so was absolutely thrilled! It has a massive range of drinks, a huge menu, it shows the boxing, has lots of parking and more deals than you can shake a stick at. The prices the Lord Nelson offers are quite unbelievable; it really is amazing value.
We were served by Brooke who was an absolute gem, I think she knew all the deals they offer by heart. We had the meal deal for two: 2 drinks, 2 starters and 2 mains for £25 (£22 if you have soft drinks) - move over Wetherspoons! She kept the drinks coming and was lovely to talk to.
This pub is so good my boyfriend actually discussed the possibility of moving house to be near it (and no, he wasn’t drunk when he said this).
Keep up the great work Lord Nelson team. We’ll definitely be back. I say ‘we’ because my boyfriend actually went back tonight without me to meet his mate for a couple of pints, but I’ll be back with...
Read moreDisappointing, we wont be returning. Being a beautiful sunny day my colleagues and I decided it would be a nice idea to go out and have lunch in the sun. I rang as soon as the pub was open and booked a table outside. In the past food has taken over half hour to arrive so we deliberately ordered simple sandwiches in hopes of reducing the waiting time. As we only had an hour, we asked how long the food would be and were told 15/20 mins (quite a reasonable amount of time). After 45 minutes I raised the issue of our missing food with the bar staff and informed them we had to leave in ten minutes. The next 15 minutes were spent arguing with the manager over the reasons why he had now lost our order and how he was going to solve the situation. There was clearly a lack of management skills on his part as the only help I got was from one of the bar girls who wasn't even meant to be working that day. Meanwhile the manager hid in his office. We have had good food here before but this is the third and worst delay we have had to date. We were refunded some of our money and drove through the McDonald's drive-thru on the way back to the office where we arrived half an hour late....
