Nice location and aesthetic interior, although quite loud and lacking many soft furnishings to soak up some of the noise so once it gets busy it’s difficult to hear anything or have a conversation with someone.
Despite quite a few staff being present there seemed to be a very disorganised vibe, I think this place suffers trying to be a half-way-house between self- and table-service. You order at the counter, but then receive a table number for servers to bring your food and drinks over to you which seemed to take a while. We ordered two croissants which were right there on display in the cabinet, but instead of just being handed them then and there we had to take a table number and wait for about 10 minutes for them to be brought over to us. There was also a misunderstanding and we were given three croissants instead of two, so these and two cappuccinos set us back about £17 which is a bit crazy, but the croissants were very nice. The coffees not so much, plus we received them after waiting for probably over 20 minutes, and they came in takeout cups despite the fact that we paid to eat in, which detracted from the experience. I expect this is because they had ran out of cups and saucers and weren’t on top of the cleaning, so had to give out takeout cups as they had nothing else.
Staff were very nice and friendly but seemed to struggle to keep up with the orders. Tables were not getting cleared and cleaned frequently either despite some staff occasionally appearing to be stood around with nothing to do. I saw a customer approach a member of staff that was stood by the counter seemingly not doing anything to ask them to clear a table so they could have somewhere to sit. If you want to be a more high-end, expensive café competing with the many pre-existing and successful brunch spots in Chiswick, then staff need to be on top of these things and the high prices of your food has to be justified. Paying a little extra for the table service is fine as long the table service is fast. In the time it took us to receive our coffees I could’ve left, got a seat at Megan’s next door, had a coffee there and come back.
Mali’s has potential for sure, but currently isn’t quite hitting the mark, and has stiff competition from probably one of the most saturated streets in London for brunch spots. If visiting, I would recommend just grabbing a couple of pastries to takeaway, unless it’s exceptionally...
Read moreI have wanted to visit Mali’s since moving to Chiswick, however I do not wish to return.
I was meeting a friend for a coffee, having ordered only a coffee it became clear that my order hadn’t been logged as the waiter served firstly a scone, to which I corrected that I had ordered an oat latte. And 10 minutes later the same waiter returned with a tea, after correcting for the second time and still waiting 30 mins for a coffee. I went to the till and one of the baristas said they would personally deliver the coffee. After a further 15 minutes, total of 45 mins just for a coffee I went to the counter. The barista then said that the waiters had been given coffees to deliver to the tables and apparently no one was there, in response I said I would wait for my oat milk latte at the till. He then served me what I thought I was an oat latte, having tried it I quickly realised being lactose intolerant this was normal milk. I then requested a refund and they couldn’t find my order and the barista was extremely rude and persisted that I ordered a normal latte- unless I wanted to become unwell that was not the case. His attitude was awful and I felt I was being blamed for his staffs mistakes.
Anyway, the latte eventually came with a cake to apologise and as I was leaving the waiter said I hope you won’t be as unhappy as you were behind the till.
After this, I will never return there again even just for a coffee I couldn’t begin to imagine the food service. And I will not be...
Read moreI recently visited Mali's Coffee Shop and Cheesewick for breakfast, and the experience was far from satisfactory. Unfortunately, I found several issues with the food and service that made the visit quite unpleasant.
Firstly, the scrambled eggs I ordered were completely unseasoned, lacking any flavor. Additionally, the menu stated that the dish came with sourdough bread, but what I received was rye bread with seeds inside. As someone who dislikes seeds, this was quite disappointing.
The accompanying bacon, mushrooms, and sausages were extremely oily. My plate was practically swimming in oil, which was far from appetizing, especially for a morning meal. When I brought these issues to the attention of the manager and the waiter, they dismissed my concerns, saying it was okay. However, it clearly was not, as I was left feeling unhappy and dissatisfied.
My wife ordered avocado toast with poached eggs and bacon. Sadly, the avocado appeared to be pre-made and not fresh, significantly affecting the taste and overall enjoyment of the dish. Moreover, no staff member checked on us during our meal to ask if everything was okay, leaving us feeling neglected.
To top it all off, we paid £38 for a breakfast that we could not enjoy. This is unacceptable, considering the poor quality of the food and the lack of attentive service. We left the restaurant feeling disappointed and frustrated. I hope the management takes these issues seriously and makes the necessary...
