I really wish I could score this place higher, as I had high expectations for it. The food was a huge let down, at £16 for a lamb shank with rice and salad, which I found too expensive for what it is. I expected it to taste amazing, as that is my personal experience with Afghan food. The food was underseasoned and very expensive for what it is. Aysu Kitchen makes an amazing lamb shank stew, with sides of rice, bulgur, bread and salad for £13.50, or £10.50 for take away, and everything is perfectly seasoned and bursting with flavour. This meal needed salt and pepper, I even poured the whole dish of chilli sauce all over the rice, but it was very underseasoned and underwhelming for the price. The atmosphere was a bit weird, it was very quiet and completely empty at first, with a couple sat in a corner. It felt uncomfortable, you could hear a pin drop, I felt After a while, they turned the music on. Weird to becthe only one there eating. No wonder the next customer chose the most further away table in a corner. Highlights: The place was SPOTLESS CLEAN, with nice decor, decorated massive wood chairs, clean walls and pretty pictures. The toilet was clean. The service was 5 stars, the staff was warm and welcoming, they brought me traditional almond sweets after my meal, and offered chai, which I refused, as I was finishing my soda. I would go back thanks to the lovely service, and try something cheaper on the menu, maybe a kebab, to avoid disappointment, as those looked amazing in...
Read moreWe were invited by a family to dine there. As we went at 9pm, we managed to find parking without any issue. My first impression was that it seems like a takeaway rather than a reataurant. Not a very big seating area but enough to cater for small groups. When we visited, there were onky 2 couples there; it wasn't very busy. It is an Afghan cuisine restaurant. We orderd the Mazar family deal and it is very reasonable priced. The deal consisted of 6 different items for £49 which is great plus drinks and salad. The presentation of the food was good. My favourite was Mantoo which was like dumplings filled with minced beef and topped with yogurt and seasoning. It was really tasty and my kids enjoyed that the most, which i wasn't expecting. The next best was the Qabli Palow. Again this is the Afghani special rice and it was delicious with a lot of visible meat which was nice and tender. There was a lot of food for the 9 of us. After finishing up on the mains, we were served with 2 portions of sweet almonds and pot of green tea. Green tea was brewed perfectly and helped us digest our food. The service was very good. The staff were friendly and polite and kept asking if we needed anything else. Looking at the menu, i think the prices are reasonable and I would recommend Mazar to anyone who is interested in trying out Afghan cuisine. I also noticed it had 4* Hygiene rating which isn't bad...
Read moreWe ordered the Mazar platter which included (2 skewers one chicken one lamb, mantu, chicken qorma, spinach , salad, naan, uzbeki pulao, chutney) well it was quiet big platter we didn’t knew, so also ordered afghani kebab and lamb Karahi. Service was very good, ambiance is simple needs to be worked on. Now the main thing food I must say one of the tastiest mantu it was very different than others we had before. Kebabs were very succulent and pulao was flavourful, salad was fresh liked the presentation.Chutney was hot but we loved it.Naan are like nice soft Turkish bread. Chicken qorma was like our salan so was lamb karahi. So pls don’t come here with the Peshawari Karahi in mind it is totally different as they are from north side of Afghanistan and they don’t have Chapli kebab. Overall experience was good. We were also offered complimentary chai and sweet almonds and melt in the mouth burfi. Their servings are large bit pricey though. We do recommend to others as we enjoyed the food and yes it’s Halal. For sweet tooth craving check the dessert shop...
