Review of Miller & Carter

I recently dined at Miller & Carter after hearing a lot of good feedback from friends. I arrived with high expectations, especially as it’s known for quality steaks and a great dining experience. Unfortunately, my visit did not meet these expectations.

The ambience of the restaurant was certainly pleasant; it had a nice atmosphere and felt inviting. However, the actual dining experience left a lot to be desired. I ordered a medium-rare steak, anticipating rich flavour and perfect preparation, but it wasn’t tasty at all, lacking the depth and quality I was hoping for.

We were in a large group, and it seemed the staff struggled to manage orders accurately. There was confusion around who ordered what, and the servers didn’t seem to have a clear system to differentiate orders, leading to a lot of mix-ups.

The biggest disappointment was with the service itself. One of the servers had her hair fall into the food while serving, which I pointed out politely. Initially, she ignored my comment, and it happened again when she leaned over to place food on the table. When I repeated my concern, she didn’t apologise but simply left the food as it was. This was both unprofessional and unappetising. For a restaurant of this standard, uniform policy must require staff with long hair to tie it up above shoulder level or wear hair nets for hygiene purposes.

Overall, the staff seemed overwhelmed, and the service felt disorganised and inattentive. For the price we paid, I expected far better service and food quality. Could do better – I left feeling that it was not worth the amount spent. With some improvements in staff organisation and hygiene standards, Miller & Carter could offer a much more satisfying...

Visited this M&C branch several times, but this was by far the worst. Six of us, including two children, ordered medium steaks and all were delivered rare to raw. When food check was performed by staff, all seemed OK, as the steaks had only just been delivered. However when cutting into the middle of one of the steaks, it was raw and the waitress was called. No we didn't want it refired as the the consumer was put off because of the rawness. When we were surprised that the steak had been included on the bill, we were told "Well you ate it." When the manageress was called, we were advised that we had put her in a difficult position. Masters of Steak? No, Masters of Passing the Blame onto the Customer. At least we got a £10 gesture, but they lost six loyal customers. Edit: Following the Manageresses response: 1. No, most of the steak was not eaten - the largest part of the 7oz was raw and uneaten. Having experienced the rawness, my Fiancee was put off of consuming anything else. 2. I made no complaint, per se, of the other steaks, but made a warning observation in my review for the sake of other potential customers. 3. "to which you had cut her off and became quite abrupt asking 'so what are you going to do about it?'". No, I'm not an abrupt person, nor am I rude like you. The discussion had stalled and was going nowhere, so I said "so how are we going to resolve this?" Your response was written in the same rude vein as the complaint was originally dealt with, proving that you and your staff should attend a customer awareness course. We spent our evening with miller and carter Harrow today as our daughter wanted to eat steak. We live close by and we always loved the meat there. All went well, when the bill came, it was more than we had accounted for. Young menu says it starts at £14.95, but the bill came to us more than £40. We had two young meals ( children). The waiter was a trainee, so he brought his senior colleague. She did highlight that the children menu starts from £14.95, not necessarily be the same price, there is £2 supplement on the steak mains. So I asked it's fine to be £16.95 but it's more than £20 what have they billed individual for a set menu price. She immediately said, I don't know, I don't decide on the menu. Then I asked her to show the menu card to show why there is no individual price if billed individually, she took so defensively and started accusing me saying I am rude. I tried to explain that things are not adding up and the menu card pricing and the actual bill is misleading. I wish I had stayed at home. My daughter came crying home saying it was a bad day while we went with happy feeling to eat there. I have no complaints about the food or the waiter who served us. Thanks to that, that's the only comforting points. Will I ever go back there? Only time will answer.

Edit. After reply from M&C. The server apparently did not mention that she pointed her fingers to the door and told us " the door is that way". Only then we had to mention that it was our intention to highlight the misleading menu which was never Heard. Sad to see how this is turned out. Visited here for my cousin’s birthday celebration and overall had a lovely experience. Firstly, I must mention that Agnes’ service and manner was super wonderful and friendly and I appreciated the care in taking my allergy order so smoothly. As a table of 17 including children on a busy Friday night I can understand that it is difficult to get everything right - but I think that support from a manager (who I didn’t see during my dinner) helping to run food and assist waiters should have been there for such a large table. Things like having to wait a while for the accompaniments to your steak can be a hindrance in enjoying your meal. Nevertheless once I was served my complete main course I was very happy, the rib eye was cooked perfectly and I loved the beef dripping gravy, onion loaf and Mac & cheese! I was disappointed in the nacho’s though which I would not recommend as they were not value for money and the cheese sauce was dreadfully cold and tasted like water (for some reason being allergic to nuts meant that the jalapeños were taken off?). Despite this I would still love to come back due to Agnes’ service and the steak which was delicious! 😊

New visit: 21/12/2022 My husband and I revisited Miller and Carter for our wedding anniversary. The service was spectacular. This time we ordered some delicious nachos as a starter. They were really delicious and fresh. I forgot to take the photos, but I recommend them. It is worth enjoying them accompanied by some exquisite sauces. I order my rib eye steak because it is so succulent, accompanied with its fries and lettuce salad. The fresh sauces that give a perfect combination to the meal. The service is excellent. They are all friendly and always keep a smile for customers. Congratulations to all for the service and Merry Christmas. ############################ 2 months ago This Saturday my husband and I enjoyed a spectacular dinner. We ordered a delicious and succulent special dish called: Rib Eye Steak, both dishes were exquisite. Both were accompanied by some sauces, salads and chips. Really delicious. The team that works in this restaurant is super attentive and polite. Thank you!

I ordered medium well and I had some really dry overcooked tough sirloin. The side was also super oily. The calamari after a few bites also felt the same. The steak burger was also dry fortunately the sauce made up for it. The caesar salad, scallops, halloumi and mac n cheese I would say were the best out of all we ordered. Some of the people I was with had decent steak but others also had steak more cooked than how they ordered it. The cocktails we had were very watered down but tasted alright. Service was okay and got better as the meal went on. We also ordered meals that were part of the lunch deals but ended up being charged individual prices for some of them. It would’ve been okay had the food been good but because the experience was already bad for us it was even more disappointing.

New visit: 21/12/2022 My husband and I revisited Miller and Carter for our wedding anniversary. The service was spectacular. This time we ordered some delicious nachos as a starter. They were really delicious and fresh. I forgot to take the photos, but I recommend them. It is worth enjoying them accompanied by some exquisite sauces. I ordered medium well and I had some really dry overcooked tough sirloin. The side was also super oily. The calamari after a few bites also felt the same. The steak burger was also dry fortunately the sauce made up for it. The caesar salad, scallops, halloumi and mac n cheese I would say were the best out of all we ordered.
