🚇 Winchmore Hill 🍺 £5.80 Guinness
The Dog & Dog is located in a quiet side street just off Bourne Hill at the southern end of Winchmore Hill in North London. The nearest station is Winchmore Hill mainline.
This pub was originally two cottages, which in the eighteenth century gained a licence to sell ale. The pub you see today was built in 1861 and is named after Dog and Duck Lane which was Bourne Hill’s previous moniker.
This is a traditionally decorated one bar pub that has a warm, welcoming and cosy feel. The servery is located on the left hand side and has beautiful wood panelling and an ornate glass gantry above. To the left of the servery are a couple of poser tables next to etched glass windows and a large Tv with trophies above. The main bar area has a long comfy banquette with small circular tables in front, there is also a tartan carpet that runs throughout. At the back of the bar is a fireplace which was lit and smelt amazing. At the rear of the pub is a partially covered beer garden with a large Tv.
The beer line up is a selection of familiar favourites and included one cask ale. As this is an Irish owned pub, I decided to try the Guinness, my pint was excellent, price point was below average. The pub doesn’t serve food at present but they are serving complimentary Irish Stew on St Patrick’s Day.
I arrived at 12pm on a sunny but chilly Saturday lunchtime in March. The pub had just opened and had a couple of lads in who were enjoying a lunchtime pint. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with an 80’s and 90’s soundtrack playing in the background. The service was fantastic, I had lovely chat with the Manager and a friendly member of the team.
The pub hosts live music and shows live sport including Six Nations, Premier League and Horse Racing.
This is a fantastic traditional locals pub that was a great place to spend time in. The warm hospitality, superb Guinness and comfortable surroundings make for a first class London pub experience. Get @thedogandduck_winchmorehill on your to visit list.

Read moreHaving previously checked with you that you would show the rugby, I drove a considerable way to meet friends and have an enjoyable evening chatting, drinking and watching the local rugby team on TV in a crucial game. The key point here is that we had previously checked with you. So once we were settled and had watched the first half, you then inform us you are turning it off as someone wants to watch Watford v Leeds (ie. Not local) in the football. One person! He had already missed the first 30 minutes yet you thought it was ok to mess up our evening rather than his. So in summary, 2 people drove all the way over to you to meet a 3rd friend to watch Premiership sport that you had promised you would show. You then break that promise and show 2nd division football for one person who, I believe, lives just around the corner. For the record, over my many years, I have been in this pub for some wonderful evenings but last night you let yourselves down badly. Thanks...
Read moreI visited this wonderful little gem of a pub in north london last week, and what an experience it was, it was during royal ascot week, where 3 of the local punters where all dressed up in their top hat and tails after returning from ascot loaded with the queens shillings, then the Euro football game between England and Scotland started, the atmosphere was electric with fun and laughter taking centre stage, awesome evening and I can't wait to visit the dog n duck on my next visit to London and finally what wonderful staff behind the bar with Nikki, Elaine and Sam joining in the fun and keeping everyone supplied with top notch service. Can't wait for my next trip to London, a...
