Looking for a large green space? A park with woods? A burbling brook? A lake with swans and ducks and coots? A listed classical building? Look no further. Grovelands has all that - and a cafe. And, in summer, a pitch and putt. The question should be around what's not to like about this beautiful expanse of woodland and wetland. If you're a dog walker or lover, it's a heaven with open green turf, a stream to play in and woods ideal for hide and seek. If you don't like dogs? Probably not your park as dog owners have sussed that it's the best all round walking space in miles. (But check out out Arnos Park nearby for similar doggy attractions.) The park is overlooked by the Priory, a residential rehab spot set in its own grounds, a Palladian deliight. On London's Open Day, its architectural delights are open to visitors. Penultimately, the pitch and putt is great fun - and challenging; at least for me, but then I am rubbish. Give it a go and recall how hard that pitching stuff is. Finally, next to the cafe is a lovely, well designed kids' playground. It's enclosed so parents can have a coffee, reasonably confident that kids will not run away easily. All in all, a great public space and heartily...
Read moreI visited this park on Saturday 26th of June 2021. It is a very nice place to spend time in, there are different sections in the park.
Some parts are very woodsy, which is nice if you like to walk around on an adventure under a lot of trees.
Some parts are fieldy with a lot of grass, where one could use to play in or sunbathe as long as the weather is okay.
My favourite part (as usual) is the sizeable lake in the centre. Plenty of waterfowl (coots, mallards) and places to sit alongside the river to watch the water. There is a part with a rocky ground, I was mostly sitting next to it on my visit watching the swan with her two cygnets and the mandarin ducks.
There are signs saying you'll receive a penalty if you don't keep your dog on a lead near the lake, however I saw this being ignored and a Swan almost had a face off with a dog who got too close, so I don't know why dog owners don't abide by the rules.
I haven't seen the food/drink in the café, however I have used the bathroom and it's not in great conditions...
Read moreThis is my favourite park both as a kid and now. When i was younger i would love using the playground equipment and when bringing my little cousins here now i could see it still holds up. As i got a bit older there was another play area added to the woods, walking by there now there is some equipment that needs fixing but when it does work i remember back then really enjoying it.
The outdoor gym was also a great addition to this park, when i was a teenager in lockdown it especially came in handy for doing i rep dips and bodyweight rows. Machines are good but id recommend them more for casuals or people just starting out as they get easy pretty fast. If your more into sports the basket ball court and tennis court is solid.
Now the park itself, just stunning especially the. I love the way that it is laid out and walk my dogs here all the time. The forrest sections and flat green field is always nice to go by.
As someone that has been here their whole life and still go i cant recommend...
