The two stars come from presentation of food and the service (two people were great, the rest, not so much). The lost three stars represent each one of the family members that spent time on the toilet during the night. When we entered the service was impeccable , we were asked how many the booking was for (yes we booked on a Wednesday but it was good we did as they got busy later on) We got to chose a side and we sat down and we asked to order drinks before the others arrived. The drinks took a long time to arrive, so long in fact our other family members got here (20 mins later ) and they got to order their drinks as we received ours. I do not blame the wait staff for this , as I saw just one bartender and im sure he had a list piled up. The main issue I had is with the food. While I cannot speak for the others the starters looked really good and seemed worth it all. The mains presentation was good but lacked the taste we all expected. None of us finished the food. I for one got the seafood delight (a seafood based dish ) it was quite bland and represented a salad more than what it said on the menu , which was disappointing. Just prawns and vegetables In a sauce, the prawns being warm but as plain as freshly printed A4 paper. The other dishes seemed ok, but none of us found them as tasty as what the menu described. (A lot more bland than one would assume ) Also the naans need more of whatever flavour they are meant to come with (be it chilli, garlic or both. The cheese one seemed to be a hit with the others).
Seems starters are the highlight of our evening there.
The toilet (male) was not in a good condition, not cleaned and there seemed to be no regular checks as all loo roll was out. Hopefully the ladies one was fully stocked.
My issue came a few hours later when we reached home. As someone with a sensitive stomach, I made sure to eat carefully. Yet I was still gut punched at 2 am and it felt like I was going toe to toe against Tyson Fury while I sat on the loo. I spent most of the night doing dashes between my bed and the nearest toilet.
Funny thing is , the other two males in the family also seem to be affected by this and they normally eat whatever they wish. I'm not sure if yesterday was a kitchen issue or something was different, but maybe this requires some investigation by the kitchen staff.
We thankyou for the service , it was appreciated. Just maybe not so much for the toilet roll expenses.
Ps. I was told to copy and paste an old review but I felt after all the time I spent on the loo last night and this morning I should at least have the decency to give you a little bit more of my time and hand write the...
Read moreOkay so I'm going to give a very honest review of The Ravensbury. I went there yesterday evening for part of The Ravensbury Weekender. Firstly, the venue is lovely and very well thought out, looks very pleasing to the eye. However, I had to pay 20 pounds to get in which I thought was extortionate for Mitcham but can appreciate that this was a particular event and obviously DJ's etc need to be paid as well as all of the staff. The male security guards looked very uniform and I definitely felt safe within the environment. The girl at the door, however, could do with some training and could also be uniform as this venue presents itself as 'classy'. We first had a bite to eat in the restaurant, can't fault it, lovely food and our waiter Ryan was amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The air conditioning was set too high and this made it difficult to eat the delicious food as our hands were trembling uncontrollably! Then into the bar, drinks are overpriced! Additionally, after paying 20 pounds entry, I would expect garden heaters at the very least. The huge tables in the garden kept toppling over with the weight of people, so many a drink was lost to the floor! The garden area is lovely to look at, nice and spacious but freezing cold! They had a stall that was selling patties and alcoholic slushies, although a very nice idea, the price of a pattie at 5 pounds is laughable! Now to inside the bar, lovely decor, nice space and a good amount of people. The music however needs work! I can't remember the first set of DJ's but the song choices and mixing were questionable, then mix masters came, again, same story and I shouldn't still be hearing the 'wifey' and Kelly Price and Aaron Hall Mix! For crying out loud, it's been 20 years, do me a favour! Then to save the night, Supa D and coldsteps arrived and played an amazing set. The difference in DJ quality compared to mix masters was very obvious at this point. I'm not really sure why they are having other DJ's on when they could have locals such as Milk Tray and Sweet Boy Entertainment, Mr Deezel or Party Solutions UK. Would be a much better evening in my opinion. I have given two stars as there is so much improvement to be made. Oh they could also consider a Bel Air type of evening for grown folks where the clientele dress well, attend the restaurant and then go to party the night away. I'm sure this would be more in line with the type of establishment they are...
Read morevery beautiful renovation they did here. 2 sides to the restaurant, a well lit more family feel side and the night club/bar side. after our booking being given away😒 we were offered the club side which worked out perfect for us a we were a party of 20 and was there to eat, drink mocktails and make just a little noise as we played games with the birthday girl. the reception we got on arrival wasn't the best. when our whole party arrived we all had to squash into the small reception thar seats 6😐 and wait 45minutes for another party to leave so we could have their table - as I said they gave our booking away with no explanations or apology! our server was very nice though, tried his best to serve all 20 of us BY HIMSELF as well as get our drinks (poor thing!)But he never stopped smiling and always displayed manners. they clearly need more staff Especially for larger parties, we were one of 6 from what I could see and it was a SUNDAY evening, it felt more like trying to get a table in a west end restaurant on a Saturday night! the food is slightly pricey but the portions are EXTREMELY generous! taste wise... Merrhh, i got chicken curry and special fried rice. I stuck with my pint of coke @ £3.50 and tap water were as my friends went with expensive mocktails that arrived to the table looking like a glass of juice - no pezaz to it at all. the only down side to the meal was that not only did we wait 30min after being seated to have our orders taken, but we all ordered everything at the same time, so main meals for some were brought out with starters for others and so those that ordered starters waited another 30 minutes for their mains, and the response that was given was "Oh we thought you would tell us when you were ready" (🤔...after you cleared our plates???) So in total 20 of us spent 2 and a half hours just Waiting!! and your front of house guy needs re-training! I would go back again but not as a group - just to give the food another chance! - Get more Staff and train them well... if you want your business to flourish! the customer isn't always right But we do come first...
