Let me tell you a few things about this pub. I have lived in this area all of my life and this pub has had one of the worst reputations. I came here on a Saturday a few years ago and the place was an utter dive with the clientele made up of the worst kinds of people. I never returned... until I was told about the changes it had gone through by a friend and how the atmosphere was genuine and friendly and welcoming.
From the outside I could tell things were different, it was clean and the tables put the front were repaired and the windows shone clean and clear. it was a Friday night, there wasn't many people inside but enough that the atmosphere was lively but not overpowering. The music was loud enough to enjoy but not too loud you couldn't hear the conversation. I noticed how pretty it was, the shiny tables, the new carpets and new wallpaper, the rustic feel of the old stone fireplace and the traditional mirrors balanced with the flat screen TVs that were high enough so you could see them but not be distracted.
I walked through to where my friends were, a side bar that has two pool tables, both immaculate condition. I went to order a drink from the bar and was greeted by Jason. The drink was ordered and I couldn't fault the clean glass and vodka and coke and the reasonable price.
but you know what sold me on this place? Jason. This man is the epitome of a bar owner, bartender and showman. He introduced himself and welcomed me as if we were old friends. I watched him that night, as being an ex bartender, I knew how the night could turn even the nicest person miserable and I was waiting for the moment I would see this cheerful chaps persona crumble. I waited that night and every night I've been back and not once has it fallen. The easy manner he deals with the very rare issue is infallible. The sense of humour is the perfect personality for a barman. The way he greets every customer individually, the conversations if you catch him when he's not delivering first class service to every single person. You know that this man, this family man, who worked so hard to reinvent this pub, that so many people have written off as a lost cause, myself included, has given this place not only his money and effort, but a very piece of his heart and soul.
The incredible roast dinners He and his wife Siobhan create and serve every Sunday are first class and made with the love and care of a family meal. The pool teams who play every Tuesday night have a number one fan behind the bar giving them refreshment and encouragement. the quiz nights on a Thursday are hosted by the wit and charm of a professional pub landlord.
I cannot rate this place highly enough, The Six Bells pub deserves this five star rating and Jason and his family deserve a lot more...
Read moreMy wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Greek restaurant that left us utterly impressed and thoroughly satisfied. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the warm and inviting ambiance that transported us to the beautiful Mediterranean.
The menu offered a wide array of traditional Greek dishes, and each one we sampled was an absolute delight. The food was prepared with upmost care and attention to detail, showcasing the rich and vibrant flavors that Greek cuisine is renowned for. Every bite was a tantalizing combination of fresh ingredients, aromatic herbs, and expertly cooked meats.
One standout dish that we couldn't resist was the kebabs. Layers of tender lamb, hearty chicken, and amazing soft bread came together in perfect harmony, creating a symphony of flavors that had us craving more. The accompanying barbecue wings plus the feta Greek salad, pallet cleansing treat that melted in our mouths.
The service was exceptional, with the staff being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They provided insightful recommendations and made us feel truly welcomed throughout our dining experience. Read moreWe have been coming to six bells for the last 3 years to celebrate special events. We found out this year that they are under new ownership. Our experience this time was less than acceptable and we will not be returning. The previous management always had a lively atmosphere, good selection of beers and cocktails and pleasant attentive servers. This time, the menu item that I returned to enjoy specifically was not available, I tried to order a draft beer, they had no draft and I had to have one of the limited selection of bottled beer, and nothing from Greece. One member of our party was served the wrong drink. When it came time to settle the Bill, our party was expecting to pay individually but we were given a single bill and when we asked for it to be separated the server rudely refused and told us it was not their problem because we should have asked for separate bills. After we paid the bills and stuck around at our table to visit for a little bit, they proceeded to turn off the tv, turn off the music and start to hover around until we packed up and left. So if you like gyros with French fries (chips) and bad service you will be fine, but the finer dining experience is gone and the drinks are very...
