Went for works Christmas do. There's a couple of steps to get in. I don't know if they have a ramp for wheelchair users. Place was clean, small tables scattered around with a few long tables in the back that can be joined together for larger parties such as ours. A piano in the corner of the room by entrance where someone does sit and play as we find out later. The toilet facilities I didn't need to use and I can't comment if they had a separate one with adaptions for disabled people because I couldn't see from where I was and I didn't ask, but I was told by a colleague later on, to only go if I really needed to. This could be as easily due to a messy customer as well as much as the pub, but hopefully, they check through the evening so it doesn't stay that way for long. They also allow use of their electric sockets for use if needed for essential medical equipment. Our table was ready and dressed with crackers. Mo toy and dad jokes crackers. Staff were lovely but busy. We didn't all order our drinks at once, and some of us ordered at the bar, some at the table with time gaps between. Some still seemed to be forgotten and needed to be ordered again. The food was from the Christmas menu, so we had to let them know in advance that it was prepared to all come out together for each course. I apologise if it was made on the premises but it looked more like those meal kit meals you get in small pubs, you know when the food is cooked but not there, they plate it and heat it before serving. I, as usual, picked the vegan option. There was only one in each category, starter, mains, and desert. Starter was lovely, pumpkin soup with the ubiquitous half slice of sourdough bread. A colleague ordered the salmon, she enjoyed it but it was small even for a starter and take note as it doesn't say bread and butter on the menu, it's because it doesn't come with it. I had to ask a couple of times for her, and the staff kindly rustled several slices of bread (yes, you guess it lol sourdough) and a little ramekin of butter. Another colleague had the was a very generous size, with SD bread or toast, I can't remember which. For mains, I had the mushroom Wellington. It came out lovely and warm. It looked like portobello mushrooms wrapped in flaky pastry with a layer of spinich sliced sideways as wellingtons are. The gravy was very flavourful, the roast potatoes crispy and fluffy in the middle, the roast carrots and parsnip tasted lovely, then there were green beans on the side...which I found strange as I would have much preferred brussel sprouts as they had on the traditional menu. They were steamed, barely as still very crunchy, more raw than cooked, but I enjoy veggies crunchy, so it was okay. They bring out pots of cranberry sauce for anyone who enjoys it. As for dessert....food regrets. The brownie I had was ok. It had nuts it it which was nice, but I had a side slice, and it had caught so tasted burnt a bit. The chocolate sauce also had a burnt edge. I don't know if it was the Guinness in it or not. The ice cream was icy and tasted like a vegan milk like soy rather than something like coconut. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves, not had the day at work after the meal for a proper chat about it. The piano guy started playing and even took requests and played with enthusiasm. I've not been here before, so I can only review for this one visit, which sounds more like a...

I've known the people who run this pub for years, starting with the original Wildcard Brewery and taproom in Walthamstow village so I had high hopes as their beer is really good, and for people like me who don't drink beer regularly they always had a good selection of other wines and spirits available.

The drinks at The Tavern on the Hill do reflect the talents of the brewers as well as their good choices when it comes to wine. A friend and I polished off 2 bottles of provencal rose on our visit to this new pub.

Opening a new pub in a pandemic is quite a challenge I'm sure. Unfortunately this place to me felt a bit 'meh' - neither a gastro pub, nor a traditional boozer. Something in between maybe, but lacked atmosphere and any particular charm - sorry guys! It's like it isn't sure what it wants to be.

We visited on a Sunday where the Japanese menu is replaced with roasts etc. I had the vegan Wellington and my friend had the chicken. Both were tasty enough but nothing special. Prices matching those locally. I've had better Sunday food elsewhere locally, but I've also had far worse. The miso buttered onion was a nice little addition to the usual sides I must say.

The staff were on the whole efficient, but not overly friendly except for the Scottish guy who served us our drinks and food. He was really friendly and helpful when we had a few issues trying to bring the menu up on our phones!

To be honest I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this pub (it's not in the centre or village parts of Walthamstow where most eating and drinking places are) as it just doesn't offer anything special enough to draw me in compared to places nearer by. It's an OK neighbourhood pub I guess, which would probably get more of my custom if I lived close to it.

3 out of 5 from me as it is right now. Perhaps as time goes on and we come totally out of this pandemic and the place finds its feet more then it might get a better...

I honestly never leave reviews but for this travesty on the hill, I had to. After seeing the Caribbean Sunday roast on tik tok, we decided to book. On arrival we enter into disorganised chaos, considering you have to book a table there is no one there to greet you or show you to said table. We went to the bar where again there is no queue, just crowds of people standing around. We placed our order at the bar for 2 jerk chicken roasts. Our booking was at 4pm, we sat and waited OVER 2 HOURS for the food to arrive! When we asked how long the food would be someone said they would check but never returned. It wasn’t even that busy so I really don’t understand what the issue was. When the food finally arrived at 6.15pm there wasn’t really a sincere apology for the absurd wait. Now onto the food.. it was subpar at best, the roast was advertised to be served with plantain and a Yorkshire pudding. No plantain was given at all, and the Yorkshire was out of a freezer packet where other tables had large homemade ones. Again no apology or acknowledgement of this. This honestly was probably the most horrific dining experience I’ve encountered. I do not understand the rave reviews. The staff are so blasé about their lack of customer service and false advertising of food this is clearly the norm. The food doesn’t compensate either for the horrific experience. At £18 a meal in this climate I can assure this was the biggest waste of money. Stick to Toby carvery, at least you will be fed good food in a timely manner and for half the price. Moral of the story: DON’T BELIEVE...

Attended Tavern on the Hill today with my cousin after finding out that Jamshack have taken over the kitchen and doing not only jamaican cuisine but traditional roast dinner on a Sunday. I must admit the food did not disappoint. My cousin and I ordered salmon served with rice and peas, salad and homemade jerk sauce. Presentation, portion size was just right!👌🏿 It was delicious!!!😋 Salmon cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. The rice and peas was flavourful rice grains nicely separated with a nice hint of coconut and and the salad was a colourful addition. We also ordered macn n cheese which was hands down the nicest mac n cheese I have had🙌🏿🙌🏿🔥🔥🔥, coleslaw was nice and crunchy, plantain a little over ripe but very nice and sweet and the chicken wings were nice and crispy, flavourful, presented really nice and the jerk sauce was sweet and slightly hot to suit all pallettes. A great way to spend my Sunday, glorious weather, great service and even better food . I will definitely be returning!😋😊

This establishment has a four week waiting list for its Sunday roast, so I had booked a table for two in october to dine in November and we were very much looking forward to it. There was pleasant reggae music in the background, however the venue was cold in our opinion. When the food arrived we both thought that the portions looked larger on the Facebook images. I had the jerk chicken roast, which in my opinion was just OK. The chicken was the main attraction and tasty, the gravy was watery, rice and peas adequate. My partner had the lamb roast and was disappointed that she had only had three roast potatoes, again watery gravy, but delicious lamb. A portion of mac and cheese was added as a side to the mains, this seemed small for the cost. The saviour for me was the rum cake and custard , which was a delight. Ultimately, we both felt that we preferred our own home cooked roasts and as a result we felt underwhelmed and so would not return.
