I am giving it 1 star but wish I could give less. I arrived with 8 other friends at 2040 on a lovely warm Saturday evening. It was pretty busy but we found a table and then all sat down to choose some food. Some went to the bar to order and then I and another friend went up a minute later and were waiting to be served. This was at 2055. The bar staff then took someone else order and then came back to my friend and told her the kitchen was now closed as it was 2100 !. (when the clock on the wall said 2058) I said that our friends had ordered 3 minutes earlier and after complaining and then going to ask chef / manager ...eventually agreed to take our order. The last person to order from our group arrived behind me as I was ordering but a couple of other people were ordering drinks, so I went to sit down, now being 2101. Our friend came back and said they would not take his order. A couple of others from our group went to talk to the bar staff but they said the chef was in a strop and would not take the order.... My friend ended up having to go to Chinese takeaway and bring the food back. When the food did arrive the so called Fat Chips which were supposed to be with steak were just the extreme skinny fries and one of the meals the peas were cold.
On top of that, we ordered a bottle of Prosecco but was told it was not cold as it had just been bought from downstairs. When it was brought out it was warm, unopened and not even any ice bucket provided.
After a really lovely day out with friends ...this experience left a very sour taste in our mouths. Terrible customer service and the strict implication of the "kitchen closes at 2100" rule despite a group ordering minutes before, totally unacceptable.
I will not be going there again for sure and hope that others will read this review and...
Read moreWe had a few drinks to finish off our celebrations of my daughter's birthday. The village pub is a wonderful venue with a wide array of drinks available, fantastic outside area. I would have given it five stars if not for the last few minutes of the evening. The last orders bell went around 11pm we decided not to get another drink as most of us had nearly finished. Approx 5 to 10 minutes later a female member of staff approached us and said "come on it's fxxxxx closing time, give us ya glasses". She then started complaining that we had moved the furniture around so TOLD us we had to put the furniture back, a few of us started to do this and I thought, no this is wrong. I said "let's go" we all left. It left a bad taste in the mouth on what was a fantastic day up till then. I think a little retraining around closing time would be an idea. UPDATE: Had a conversation with the assistant Manager today and he assured me this wasn't the usual level of staff behaviour. I am confident of this and I would recommend the Village to anyone, as I said originally it is a fantastic venue, clean, airy, fabulous staff, for the most part, and I will be back...
Read moreMy partner and I were staying at T Barns near this pub and stopped off for dinner. It was filled with locals at 8pm on a Thursday. In a small town, this appears to be the heart of it!
The food was absolutely incredible. I would highly recommend the £75 steak for two. Though at a glance this seems overly expensive, the meat cut was the best I’ve ever had (and as a steak lover myself, this is going far). It came with two hearty portions of chunky chips and fine green beans. Would 1000% recommend.
The second highlight of this venue is the staff. We were greeted by a group of the most friendly people I’ve ever encountered! Each one of them came to speak with us, engaging in conversations about the food/personal recommendations, the town and its history and our own personal stories. A special shout out to Charlie, who gave us an in depth history of this pub.
We loved it here and if we are ever passing by, will...
