The best fish and chips that I can remember eating. My partner and I picked ours up at around 6:30 on opening night and ate them on the walk home. The food was hot, fish very tender and tasty, with fantastically seasoned batter. The chips were perfect chip shop chips - a slight crunch on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside. The batter even held up all the way from the Village down to Lloyd Park, which is a real achievement. Walthamstow has several decent chippies, but this is now very much at the top of our list and while it only opened less than a week ago, it's been quite hard to resist going back for seconds. After maybe going a bit too far into the land of regular weekly takeaways in order to get us through the first lockdown, we've now trimmed our rotation to a monthly order from either Gokyuzu, Green Grill, Tiffin Tin, Italian Bakery, and now Orford's. I'm only really writing such a long review in order to keep me from putting my coat on and walking...

Disappointed: 3 Reasons
Very over cooked and dry piece of Haddock, could be a one off as they were busy, but equally, of busy I would have thought it would all be fresh... A sachet of Heinz Tartare sauce (like the same size as Mayo or ketchup, but the harder plastic squeezed type ones) was £2.95! Yep, £2.95. The Mayo - 60p.... good grief! Scampi: £8.95 and it was honestly like the same you’d get frozen from Tesco, lacked flavour, and was missing 2 pieces! So I only got 8 out of 10...
Chips were nice though (but I asked for S&V on the notes and they didn’t put any on..)
I was actually gutted, because I am a huge seafood eater and I whilst I would try again, I don’t think it’s worth it for the money to risk it... turn off Deliveroo if you’re not going to get it 100%.
Happy to discuss feedback with the manager so please get in touch if...
Read moreIt's great to have a fish and chip shop in Walthamstow Village - the ones in Wood Street, Leyton and Higham Hill are all good, but just a little too far away for it to be hot when you get it home.
I went on the second night they were open, and there was a short queue to order and 20 minute wait after ordering. Combined with them being out of a few things because they had been so busy, I thought that I'd be giving them a 3 or 4 star review with a note that I'd re-review later when things had calmed down a bit.
Then I tried the food and knew it had to be 5 stars. Portions are generous, with an order of chips easily feeding two people. The chips are exactly the chip shop chips of your dreams - thick but not doorstops with solid outsides and fluffy insides. The fish was huge, and the batter was crispy and airy, without a hint of sogginess or greasiness. I'm looking forward to coming back...
