The Whitehart restaurant in Erith, London, proved to be an absolute delight. From the moment I stepped in, I was enveloped by the vibrant and lively atmosphere that permeated the entire establishment. It happened to be my first visit to London, and I had the pleasure of attending my friend's birthday celebration at this wonderful venue. The ceremony took place in the underground hall, which boasted a cozy yet spacious setting, perfect for our gathering of around 50 people. The occasion was marked by a delectable buffet, showcasing an array of Nigerian delicacies that truly tantalized the taste buds. The spread included an assortment of mouthwatering dishes such as pounded yam served with egusi and vegetable soup, porridge, flavorful fried rice, aromatic jollof rice, traditional ofada rice complemented by ayamtse sauce, and a delightful selection of perfectly prepared fried fish, beef, and chicken. To complement the culinary delights, a variety of refreshing drinks were available, including water, fruit juice, wine, and the ever-popular maltina. Each bite of the scrumptious food left me craving for more, and even the following day, the memory of those delectable flavors lingered, evoking a longing for another feast at the Whitehart restaurant. As evening fell, the upper chamber of the establishment transformed into a captivating restaurant ambiance. However, as the night progressed, a remarkable metamorphosis occurred, turning the space into an energetic club that was a magnet for those seeking a lively nightlife experience. The crowd that graced the venue, predominantly composed of Africans, particularly Nigerians, added an extra layer of authenticity to the festivities. The DJ took center stage, skillfully blending the latest Nigerian hits with beloved classics, igniting an atmosphere of unbridled joy and merriment. People danced with abandon, fully immersing themselves in the infectious rhythms. Witnessing this transition left me surprised, as the Whitehart restaurant effortlessly transitioned from a sophisticated dining locale to an electric nightlife destination. Overall, celebrating with my friend at the Whitehart restaurant was an extraordinary experience. From the welcoming ambiance to the scrumptious Nigerian meals, every aspect of my visit was filled with delight. I cherished the opportunity to partake in the festivities, savoring the delectable cuisine and enjoying the company of friends. The memories created during my time at the Whitehart restaurant will forever hold a special place in my heart, reminding me of the unforgettable moments and the truly remarkable atmosphere that made this celebration truly remarkable.

Dodgy online booking system! I booked a table for four people using their online booking system on their website(photo attached). I was asked to pay a deposit of £30, which I did. When we attended the restaurant and ate our meal, I told them £30 had to be subtracted from the bill. To verify this, I also showed the waitress the confirmation email I received after paying the deposit(photo attached). The waitress was unsure so she called the manager (who wasn’t at the restaurant). The manager then requested I send her a snapshot to show this amount was debited from my bank(photo attached). After she checked this, the manager then informed the waitress that she didn’t receive the payment. She stated that her business partner first takes their share of the profits before she receives her portion. She didn’t receive a deposit of £30 in her account. The manager then asked me to pass my contact details to the waitress. I was told I would be informed when my refund was ready. Up to now I haven’t been contacted or received my £30 back. The deposit was paid on January 3rd and we attended the restaurant on February 4th. This is unprofessional and unacceptable. Other people could make the mistake of booking a table online, paying a deposit and not getting the deposit subtracted from their bill, meaning they have lost their money. To avoid losing customers, you should remove the booking link from your website.

Food: I would have given the food a 5 star because it tasted really good but the portions were too small and they were overpriced. Imagine peppered ponmo for £18 very small portion, all the prices were outrageous. ,£30 for regular grilled fish with 4 piece of yam and plantain. Service: the waiter was friendly. A 4star for her but not for the entire experience. She served as both the receptionist, waiter and cleaning personnel The work load was evidently too much for her. It’s terrible that the management made one person do all of that work and only one Chef was on duty. Wait time: we got a table for 14 people wait time for food was too long. We waited over three hours for simple meals and some of us had to switch to takeaway. It’s really unfair They should work more on getting chefs to meet up with demand Atmosphere: the atmosphere is okay Though the toilet could be better, at least for the price they charge

Restaurant looked lovely and food was nice; Good portion sizes and very well presented but your customer service stinks. I came in yesterday when the restaurant was relatively empty on a bank holiday. I was part of a large group of 15 people and after being disappointed elsewhere, we booked a table here in the hope of getting some good food. One girl was serving food and drinks, fair enough. But having visited enough restaurants, I think I can safely say that if she had a better ATTITUDE and moved a little faster, she could have got a lot more done. The restaurant was not overly busy. 20 minutes into our visit, still waiting for a menu or even a drinks list from bar girl (which is what I will call her since she was very reluctant to leave that area) the remaining members of our party arrive to be seated and fed. We had pre ordered a table and some food, which we knew would take a while to make but were told on arrival that no table was reserved and fish had not even started cooking. Nonetheless, as the group also consisted of quite a few children, we ordered food for them and were told it would 'not take very long to come out.' OVER AN HOUR LATER we are still waiting on food for very hungry children, only snacks/starters available according to bar girl was suya and pepper soup, which would have been too hot for young children to handle so I'm getting very irate at this point. Also did I mention that the PRE-ORDERED food was still nowhere to be seen??????? Also, don't even think about getting served a drink at the bar with bar girl if you don't happen to be a man, she won't even acknowledge you unless a man comes forward to come and order the drinks! After sitting at the bar for almost 30 minutes, asking for one simple drink to be ordered 3 times, a man in our party steps forward to order some drinks and she's on it immediately! Note to management, either train her properly or put her in the back because she's no use customer facing, looking and acting like she's just out there to catch a man! Eventually, over 2 hours later, food was served. Some missing and after a lot of back and forth, some members of our party just left. Hungry and dissatisfied. Management offered apologies, after prompting from one of our party but not much else. In the name of customer satisfaction and return business, we spent alot of money in that restaurant, surely a discount of some sort would be in order? Not even a little. At the mention of 'discount', management suddenly changed their tune, started getting upset then retreated back to the kitchen, leaving bar girl and her excellent people skills to handle the fallout.

So all in all, this restaurant has the potential to be really good, but it is spoilt by obnoxious staff and stuck up management. Your customer service skills have let you down and is something you should seriously look at if you want to maintain your 5 stars. I hope you do read through this review and really take the advice on board and I hope you will be seriously looking at your staff and get the right people to make every customer's...

My family of 5 went to Whitehart on Mother's Day and sadly we won't be going back.

We arrived at 7.10pm had to stand around for 10mins while a table was cleared for us. It was painful to watch the only waitress on duty clear away items without a tray... it took 3 trips and at one point she was on the floor trying to pick up items that had been dropped in the process. In the end the table wasn't cleaned properly and there were no glasses or cutlery replacements.

The service was slow... 40mins for our drinks and starter to arrive and only after we reminded them. Drinks came without glasses and my husband had to make 2 trips to the bar to ask for them along with some ice as the soft drink was not cold.

The starter platter which cost £15 came with poor quality food especially one blacken puff puff that was inedible. 3 pawns, 3 puff puff, 3 spring rolls and 1 chicken thigh for £15 and they could not even make sure it was all edible?! There was no water provided... you could however buy a bottle for £2.50. 🙄

We had been waiting for an hour when they came to tell us they were out of Jollof rice!!! How do you run out of your most popular item at 8.30pm?

My husband went to the gents and came back unhappy with the cleanliness, so everyone went easy on drinks so they would not have to use the facilities.!

They served a main for one member of our group while the rest of us waited for another 40 mins, in frustration we decided to cancel our food order in favour of going home to eat KFC, I went to the bar to ask to pay for what we had received at which point they said our order was ready. This was now 9.10pm. We waited another 10mins for cutlery.

My daughter was served food in a bowl with the inner coloured layer peeling off into her meal, and the meat was so tough she gave up trying to eat it altogether. Jollof rice was replaced with fried rice, which was more like boiled rice mixed with vegetables. My husband ordered Amala but got pounded yam! But at this point t we decided that sending it back would be too risky.

At the end of our meal we asked to speak to the manager but was told she was busy as she was also the cook! We sent word to her regarding our experience and we were given £2 off our bill. 😂 It wasn't about the money but I guess that went over his/her head.

It's so sad that this restaurant has not maintained its standards. This is my 4th or 5th visit and it has been my choice for authentic African food for the past 2 years. The variety of African stews is fantastic but this on its own...
