The Railway Pub Wateringbury — Restaurant in Maidstone

This pub really needs to raise its game. On the surface it could have potential, but it’s let down by avoidable basics.

The barmaid was friendly and gave a great first impression. Unfortunately, that was where the positives ended.

Drinks: Massively overpriced – £15.50 for two gin and tonics, and not even a slice of fresh lime or lemon. That’s a basic ingredient in the drink, and without it the experience felt cheap and disappointing. For the price charged, this is completely unacceptable.

Toilets: Absolutely disgusting. One toilet had a broken seat and the ladies’ had no lock on the door. This is a shocking lack of basic maintenance.

Cleanliness & atmosphere: The whole bar feels tired, unloved and in need of a deep clean.

Overall, this place gives the impression of a pub that relies on a handful of regulars and passing trade rather than making any effort to win repeat customers. A few straightforward changes could make a big difference—but as it stands, I wouldn’t...

Not the friendliest of staff. Wanted to get some food and was told that it can only be ordered at the grill stand outside. So went and ordered a vegan burger... all I got was a vegetable burger in a bun. No sauce, not even a but of lettuce. For just under £5 needless to say i will not bother again. What bothered me was the fact that few minutes after the same lady that was at the bar and told us we can't order food at the bar came out asking for the price of cheesy chips as she had a customer at the bar that ordered but she had no prices left...

09-07-2017 Sunday. After a long cycle ride along side the river Medway I stopped here for a pint and I decided to have a roast beef Sunday roast. This was probably the best that I have ever had.
