Visited for lunch with a friend who had driven an hour to see us. Chose to eat there based on the excellent reviews, but was met with impolitenness and poor service. First of all - no highchairs, a difficult step and very cramped interior, so not very accessible for prams or wheelchairs. Not a problem as such, but worth mentioning. Onto the service: my friend asked for an iced coffee as it was hot, and was told very bluntly that they didn't do those. I had a headache, so requested a glass of water with ice while I decided what to eat... and was told that they don't "do" ice...! My friend then asked "could I have a salmon sandwich?" and the server genuinely replied with a blunt "no". She clearly was having a bad day and I can empathise with this, but still... We ordered a toasted flatbread, and then waited half an hour for it to come, by which point we had to ask for them to be wrapped up so we could get going. I wish we'd stayed so we could complain about the fact that there was barely any filling in our sandwich, which was not a toasted flatbread by any stretch, but alas - we were long gone. The outside cm of the bread didn't even have spread on and there was barely any tuna to be found in the tuna and cheese flatbread I had ordered. Very disappointing, especially considering the fact that they were £7.60 each. Sadly, won't be returning. Would have enjoyed a sandwich from the petrol station more and waited far less...
Read moreJust had cheesey scrambled on granary and garnish. Oh it was unbelievably amazing and melted in the mouth. Each forkful was a delight in itself. The coffee here is top draw too. Another awesome thing about this place is that you can view all the antiques for sale while you wait and bag a bargin of yesteryear. As it is a main meeting place for Wateringbury it can get busy so reserving a table is fine. Veggies vegans also catered for. My wife had chessey scrambled egg on muffin with crispy bacon and she loved it too. Simple wholesome menu cooked too perfection everytime. If you're passing through Wateringbury you have to drop in. I promise you won't be disappointed. It's a 1000/1000 from us and we'll definitely be coming back. Apologies for not uploading pictures but I couldn't wait...
Read moreThis is an absolute gem of a place. After seemingly endless motorway miles we turned off to wiggle our way through green countryside and stopped to enjoy real coffee 👧🏼 and a proper pot of tea 👴 with a proper tea strainer. Although we are determined to cut back on cake 🍰 the Bakewell Tart was winking at us and who were we to look away? We cannot recommend this haven too highly. Thank you, Nick and Hilary.
P.S. There is a free car park on the right, down the hill from the traffic lights. However, it was full of yummy-mummy soft roaders during a birthday celebration close by so we continued down the hill for a very short distance and parked in a line of cars...
