Village Tea Rooms — Restaurant in Maidstone

Both stars for the food, we were close to walking out! We arrived 50 minutes before closing and we're not greeted at all, in fact two members of staff walked off as we walked in.

We weren't sure if we should pick a table or be assigned one but in the end chose one tucked in to the side.

I would have liked to have sat in the larger back room but the staff were hoovering and this room appeared out of bounds.

We looked through the menu and chose our meals, unfortunately all the options I wanted were out of stock - no jacket potatoes, chips or baguettes. These items missing made half the menu obsolete. We weren't told this until we'd already chosen, but the waitress looked really put out when we asked for more time to make a new decision.

We waited a while for the waitress to come back, during which time we heard her and another lady behind the counter being rude about us, wondering how long we'd take or if we'd order something complicated. I even saw the older lady shoot dirty looks at us! We were really hungry and had been stuck in traffic for a while to get here, but at this point we nearly walked out.

Luckily the food arrived quickly and was brilliant. My husband even said , "all is forgiven!"

Sadly another member of staff clunked past our table with a mop and bucket and dumped this right next to me. She went into a side room as the mop swung around in the bucket and just missed hitting me. We finished our meal to the lovely smell of bleach and left as soon as we could. If they didn't want us there or to serve us food they should have shut the doors at 3.40 not the 4.30pm...

RIP OFF!!! The presentation and quality has gone down and I just paid £15 for a sandwich, tea and cake!!! As others have said, this used to be a nice place to visit, but now in 2023 it's just way over-priced and way over-staffed too! Maybe they should reduce the number of unnecessary staff!?! Then perhaps they'd be able to bring their prices down to an acceptable level instead of just ripping people off!! They generally appear to have two types of clients, the local elderly that they rip-off and folks passing through that they rip-off. Both of which can easily be taken advantage of and believe me they do! You can always tell an unscrupulous business, as they fail to address any feedback left by customers and that's because they simply couldn't care less! Next time I visit Headcorn, I shall just bring a flask and simply buy a sandwich and a cake from Sainsbury's across the road instead! I'll save £10 that way and put that in my petrol tank instead! Shame on these people taking advantage, for what is basic/average food and it's not even done with a smile! IF you do go, make sure you get in there at least an hour before the advertised "closing time" as they start cleaning and clearing up about an hour before the advertised "closing time" So you'll be made to feel "in the way" as various mops and brooms and table clearing takes place while you're trying to relax. I ordered chilli cheese jacket . I asked for the cheese on first .

When it arrived - I could find the cheese- I called a staff member over . She was polite and listened to my query about the cheese .

Then the older lady behind the counter , shouted over behind the till area , behind a coffee machine “ she put cheese on! I seen her !! It’s already melted? Quite abrupt and rude ! I looked at the lady that I was talking to who looked uncomfortable and embarrassed with Member of staff lack of professionalism, and asked her to get me some more cheese . she was quite obliging.

The older staff member should’ve walked over and spoke to me professionally at the table Instead of shouting across the front to the shop Hiding behind a coffee machine….

She said it was already melted? but they just brought my dinner out straight away from the kitchen? How could cheese melt that quickly? Unless it was literally A pinch of cheese in the first place . Regardless , I couldn’t see cheese. I wasn’t happy as it was , and I would like extra cheese.
