My recent dining experience at Miss Dee's Evoden Kitchen & Bar was nothing short of delightful. From the moment we stepped in, we were welcomed by a young, energetic server who, despite being a bit nervous and making a few minor errors with our order, impressed us with his friendliness and well-presented demeanour. We later discovered it was his first-day working solo out front, and considering the busyness of the place, he did a commendable job.
For our meal, we ordered: Oxtail with rice and peas, and fries Curried Goat with rice and peas, and steamed vegetables Jerk Chicken with sweet potato fries and mac and cheese
After a medium wait, with a humorous moment of our food initially being delivered to the wrong table, our dishes arrived, and they looked fantastic. The oxtail was tender and fell off the bone, the curried goat had just the right amount of spice, and the jerk chicken boasted a sweet, tangy flavour with a pleasant chargrilled finish. The sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy, as were the regular fries. The rice was flawlessly cooked and seasoned, and the mac and cheese featured a nice thin crust without being overly heavy. I prefer a breaded crust Grenadian style, but that's just a minor preference.
We also enjoyed adding some hot sauce and lemon sauce, which complemented our meals wonderfully. Each main course was priced at a reasonable £14, and a glass of coke at £2.50. While the Coke came from a 2-litre bottle and lacked the desired fizziness, I would have preferred paying a bit more for a can or bottle.
The ambience of the venue was warm and inviting, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The bar offered a wide selection of beers and spirits, including homemade ginger beer, which unfortunately was sold out during our visit.
A highlight of the evening was when the boss, Miss Dee herself, made an appearance. She expertly handled a large table of young patrons who were giving our new server a hard time, addressing them firmly yet motherly, even hugging one of the more vocal individuals. Her presence added a personal touch to the overall experience.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at Miss Dee's Evoden Kitchen & Bar and are already planning our next visit. The combination of delicious food, friendly service, and a cosy atmosphere makes it a must-visit spot in Charlton. Looking forward to our next meal there – perhaps Miss Dee will remember us!

It's tricky sometimes, as a meat-eater in a relationship with a vegan, to find nice restaurants which work for both of us. I do enjoy plenty of vegan food, and they're usually happy with a Beyond burger, but we rarely get to experience new food, and have that food be excellent, and to both out tastes, together. If you've ever had this issue, are a fan of excellent vegan none-oxtail (made with jackfruit), or enjoy meat oxtail so divinely cooked it peels off the bone by the fork, check out Evoden.
Our service was excellent. The Menu was explained to us, vegan options double checked, and we were set at ease quickly. We sat in the covered outside area, I had a wonderful view down toward Beech Road Park and the sunset illuminated trees. Drinks were good, order taken quickly, more friendly rapport with out server.
After an appropriate time the food came and all conversation ceased as we ate some of the most delicious food of our relationship. I had oxtail with peas and rice and corn on the cob and absolutely loved it. My partner loved their none-oxtail with chips and vegan mac n cheese (very noochy!)
Oh and did I mention how incredibly reasonable the price was? Drinks and excellent meals for two for £35 in this economy is an absolute marvel.
Couldn't recommend Evoden more highly, excellent vegan options, delicious meat dishes, incredible value for money, great location, wonderful service. If your next meal out isn't here, you're...
Read moreBased on the Google reviews, we booked a table before heading to a concert in Manchester (taking into account it was Valentine's Day). We were very warmly greeted and provided with menus on arrival but the restaurant was so cold and I couldn't take my coat off. We were asked if we wanted drinks and I asked for a lime and soda and my husband had a beer. The waiter went off and came back to say there wasn't any soda (which is fine) so I had sparkling water. We were also told there was no chicken curry on the menu. We both choose jerk chicken meals with sides of fries and potato fries / Mac & cheese & coleslaw. The food then took over 45 minutes to arrive. The chips / sweet potato fries / coleslaw were all pre-maid and not great quality. The mac & cheese didn't arrive, so we chased it up. When it did arrive it was fusilli with grated cheese (melted) on the top. Nothing like mac & cheese. Once we had finished the lovely waiters took part of our plates from our table but then left the rest. We were never asked if we wanted another drink and had to ask for dessert menus. Now the food was not expensive but I really think that the fries & coleslaw should've been made from scratch. Maybe we had a bad night with it being Valentine's Day. Don't like to do critical reviews but felt there needed some balance on the...
