Crown at Claydon — Restaurant in Mid Suffolk

Wow what a meal! I move to the area nearly 2 years ago and due to Covid and everything else wrong with the world this is only the second time I've been able to visit the Crown.

The whole night was excellent, we booked earlier in the day to reserve a table and we're promptly seated upon arrival. Every member of staff that we had any form of contact with was super happy and friendly. To a point my 3 year old daughter was mentioning it! Apologies for not getting the names of the staff, but there was one lady with pink pastel hair (I think) who when placing my Very Berry Burger down acknowledged my daughters reaction of 'Wow!' and struck up a little chat with her stating how colourful it was. By the way that burger with the vimto sauce was amazing! With such a huge chunk of Camembert to. And then another lady who cleared the table got chatting with the children saying how well they done at eating the ammount of food they did.

Things like this go a long way as my son (2 Y/O) has autism and these interactions really go a long way!

Overall a great experience, food was brought to the table really quick. The children's meals where great sizes portion wise and great value, My Daughters cheese burger was immense and she stated it was the best burger ever! My son finished his sausages quicker than I've ever seen him eat. My partner had a mixed grill where the steak was cooked as she wanted it, and the gammon was great! I had the very, Berry, vimto burger thingy. I can't remember the exact name, but that was an explosion of flavours!

The only thing I wish could be made different! And this is important! The ability to pay gratitude by card or via the app! (I normally order via the app so my son isnt left sitting around getting loud etc)

Next time I'll have to bring cash just to make sure! Unless I can...

Food was good and most of the staff were ok. Unfortunately we nearly left before sitting down because of the rude older man behind the bar. My elderly parents polity asked where our table was they had booked earlier in week he basically didn't seem to know what he was doing and was very rude stating that they had booked. I then heard say to someone " I will dump them here'! This table was directly under very large screen showing football and was totally unsuitable for a family meal. When we asked if we could have another table he got very stroppy before showing us to a more suitable table. When I went to get drinks I did tried to avoid him but unfortunately he served me and my dad and again was very abrupt with us while sloching on the bar like we were disturbing his evening. However the young lady who took our food order was very polite and friendly as were the young lads who served our table. This would have been 4 or 5 star review if the man wasn't there.

IN REPLY TO YOUR REPLY We avoided the man and put him out of thoughts I'm afraid to enjoy the evening but he was behind the bar on Saturday evening 20th May serving with a young lady. He was probably in his late 50s and was the only older man we saw while we were there - he seemed to have an interest in football, far more so than your customers! The rest if the staff...

Obviously visited on the worst possible day. Apparently the chef was on sick leave.

Seated inside near the bar next to a massive tv and is pretty noisy in there.

Not my goto place but we visited for convenience which wasn’t so convenient.

Ordered by their app which seemed to be a big mistake. Ordered 2 meals with drinks. After waiting 30 mins I heard another customer complain about waiting 1 hour for their food. At 45 mins I asked a waitress the expected readiness of our order and she said she would check. She walked past and ignored us and then spoke to someone else about their complaint.

I asked her again and at this point I advised her that I would like to cancel my order and a full refund if our order wasn’t ready within 10 mins as we were late for an appointment.

Another chap came out and advised that we would have our order within 10 mins and if not we will get a full refund.

My food was ok although my son’s was not great.

The Manager of the restaurant hid in the back and left his young staff to deal with multiple unhappy customers.

I will not be revisiting this establishment in my lifetime even if it was the only place on earth. McDonalds would be a cheaper and quicker option.
