Is Britain shifting from a nation of tea drinkers to coffee drinkers? I love my tea but a great coffee in the morning helps me start the day.
So many places do coffee these days, but getting a consistently decent coffee, let alone a single decent coffee, can be a tricky thing to find.
Sometimes, great coffee is to be found in the unlikeliest places.
As is the case with The Coffee Box at Hickstead.
Itās in a converted shipping container in a lay-by just off the A23 northbound. But donāt let the romantic description dissuade you. This is a gem of a find.
Iāve been coming here ever since Pippa and Natalie first opened with Betty, a converted 1970s ice cream van. Their popularity has grown and grown with a move to a small shipping container and, in recent weeks, a stylish and professional larger container.
Another bonus is that they open silly early to benefit those of us who start work at six. In the morning. Thereās nowhere else that I know where you can get even just a mediocre coffee.
Toasted sandwiches, baps, cereals and pastries are also on offer and The Coffee Box attracts a diverse mix in the mornings.
Thereās usually customer waiting but, with the new bigger container the wait is shorter and the service quicker.
Iāve been meaning to write a review for some time now. Pippa has just made me the most excellent long black so this is an appropriate moment to drop them a review.
Friendly people, great coffee and food. But donāt tell anyone and certainly donāt go there on my say so. ā¦I donāt want it getting so busy that I have to wait ages....

The coffee was delightful, rich, and perfectly brewed. What truly stood out was the Lotus Biscoff cakeāan absolute treat that complemented the coffee wonderfully.
