Old Farmhouse — Restaurant in New Forest

On arrival as we walked through the door one of the local lads was swearing offensively. We got stuck in the corner (nobody puts baby in the corner!) At the back of this foul mouthed local lad and we had to witness and hear his loud voice all throughout our visit about how he has not showered today what’s the point when he’s going home later to go back to bed he’s only Popped out for a few points. He was also being rude and suggestive to the barmaid. Most in appropriate and at times offensive. Took over an hour to come with our main meal and the place was not fully booked and was not very busy. When it arrived there was no fried egg on the mixed grill when my husband managed to get staff attention they shrugged it off with oh we not got any we’ve run out. What sort of food chain runs out of eggs ? This is a basic ingredient in any kitchen. My roast dinner the carrots were raw I don’t think they have even been near any boiling water let alone cooked!!! The cauliflower was cooked but only blanched as still hard. The roast potatoes where over cooked and close to being burnt but they were edible. A nice group of young people came in and made their food order only to have someone come back to them and say sorry we got no burger buns !! Omg who ever runs the kitchen need sacking and employ a proper chef that can cook everything and is able to order enough stock to be able to full fill the menus. Heaven forbid this place should have a busy period as I don’t think the kitchen staff would cope. They only brought out one set of meals at a time as it felt like the chef could not cope cooking in the kitchen with half a dozen food orders. The had an extremely long wait again between main and dessert being served. I can say the staff were all polite and nice not very attentive as never checked if everything was ok or not. They seemed to serve the food and then just disappear!! After this experience my husband and I realised this is why we stopped coming her as very often they are missing some parts of the menu. We have been a regular customer here for many years.  Have had some good times but yesterday was bad.  We had pre-booked the tables and the meals as normal, and we provided them with a contact phone number to contact us if there were any issues with the order.  When we arrived the staff told us then that some of the meals needed to be changed as they had a problem with the battered fish. Ok we thought.. then we were told that we could not have one of the puddings we had pre-booked as the freezer was broken and the ice cream had melted, (Bubble gum ice cream).  The staff then said but you can have any other ice cream flavour??? How is this possible if the freezer is broken and the ice cream has melted?  When the staff started to bring out the meals only after half of us were served, they stopped delivering the meals? It must have been around 10 minutes before the rest of the meals were served.  Some of us waited until the rest of the food had been delivered and some of us started eating, but it took so long for the rest of the food to come out others had finished eating and the rest had cold food!!  The presentation was also disgraceful.  The food looked like it had been dumped on the plate.  Burger stacks falling over, food mixed all over the plate and missing the garnish (coleslaw-salad).

Before those that had their meals late had finished eating, the staff started to remove the empty plates and asking if they should bring out the puddings. We felt very rushed.  We also spotted that the staff had started to move tables around, trying to make space for another large group.

When the puddings were brought out they did not come out at the same time either and 1 was missing. So we had to wait again..

All in all and very bad dineing experience!!

Not all Greene King pubs are the same. Lesson learnt. Mustered my courage to try lunch at this pub after 2 years now that Greene King has taken over. The last time I dined here, I was served stale coleslaw that the wait staff said was freshly made “last night”. Anyways, today I ordered 2 senior sets (for my parents), 1 hunter’s chicken, 1 lasagne & 1 American burger. Senior set came with choice of 2 starters; soup or chicken strips. I asked what the soup of the day was and was told it was tomato & red pepper soup and so I chose soup. Starter arrived 40 mins later (only 2 tables ordering food, it was 2pm on a quiet Monday) My Dad was informed at the point of serving that soup of the day was Lentil Sou and not Tomato & Red pepper. During this 40 mins nobody thought that they should tell us they made a mistake about the soup of the day and someone obvious thought we won’t mind Lentil Soup. Wait staff came back twice in 10 mins to ask if we were done with soup and she said they won’t start cooking our mains till the soup bowl goes back into the kitchen. I’ve never heard of such a thing anywhere else. Told her to get the kitchen started with our order. About 15 mins later, a 1/4 breast of hunters chicken (Senior set it seems) arrived. I had to give the senior set to my 8 year old as it was definitely not a good portion for my Dad. My burger nearly made it to the table if not for the top of the roll that wasn’t secured with a food pick and so it ended up on the floor. Eventually, we had salt with chips, onions with salad.
