Came a few times to this plave for drinks as its our local pub and had always been fine. This time decided to take friends for food and drinks and was so utterly disappointed, firstly we had booked a table and was barked at as we approached the bar by the barman saying its table service only, but we didn't know where we were sitting but he guided us to the table. We ordered the scotch egg for a starter and the homemade chutney was disgusting it tasted like soggy cabbage. But was replaced by some tomato chutney after we asked.
Then the mains where the real disappointment came into play, 2 burgers one was served with cold chips one with more onions than beef, both buns were stale.
The mac and cheese was good and the gourmet hot dog was nice but nothing gourmet about it.
Then we asked for the bill, we were charged the same price for 3 different gins froms Gordon's to bombay.
Then we asked for the bill waited 20 mins to no service so went to the bar and asked to pay expressing the fact we don't want any money off, the land lord said you can't pay there, we said we've been waiting long enough to pay at the table and never got served, he said we'll your going to wait longer if you wait there, so amgerly went back to the table for the only decent waiter in there to come and take the bill.
Vastly different experience from that of the George pub 2 mins down the road.
Do not book here for food or...
Read moreHave seen some good reviews for this pub but visited the Crown Inn with my family, including two grandchildren aged 7 and 4 this evening and had the worst experience. Arrived just after 6pm when the pub was very quiet. When ordering our meals we made a point of giving them the children's choices first and then our own. We waited at least 45 mins for our meals to arrive and when they did, they delivered all the adults meals but neither of the children's meals. The kids had to sit and watch us eat ours. When we asked the staff why the childrens' meals hadn't arrived, we were told they were on their way. This was obviously not true and after another 15 mins their meals did eventually arrive, one order of sausages were undercooked and stone cold inside so couldn't be eaten. The children shared one burger and chips. The pub did gave them a complimentary ice cream but my husband declined to pay the childrens' portion of the bill. All in all we'd been in the pub nearly 90 mins before the children were fed. Really...
Read moreWe ordered Roast Turkey for lunch. I thought 'how lovely'...they have added Gammon meat also...until my friends commented there was no gammon and this was raw Turkey!! I'm not sure the waiter realised how serious this was...and we never saw the chef to explain. We did however receive refunds x 2 for the Turkey but that is not the point! I don't cook much but even I could do Turkey and I pretty much know that it is white when cooked...not red!! It was really hard to cut because it was raw, despite me having eaten some and not realising until my friends mentioned! The service was not great despite the place not being full and I would definitely not go there again. Sorry Crown Inn...really bad service and food hence the 1 star ( which...
