This is one of those really oldie worldie pubs with multiple minute bars, stuffed full of bric-a-brac and mementoes from a bygone age. It's on the Cask Marque Ale Trail and the purpose of my visit. Despite saying so on their website and although the door was open , they were clearly not ready for business at 11.00, and there was no way the beer would be fit to serve. I asked for a coffee, but even this was met with vaguary. I'm sure it's a lovely pub, but not at 11.00 on a Sunday morning

Absolutely lovely place, visited here today with my aunt. Lovely atmosphere and very quirky old pub, lots of history. Had children's roast chicken, which was more than enough for a grown adult, delicious. Gravy was homemade and roasties were really crispy, veg cooked perfect and homemade Yorkshire pudding was lush. Staff were very helpful and polite, very friendly. Definitely recommend and will return on my next visit from Wales.

What a great name for a Pub! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 This famous national hero deserves all the praise for what he did for our great nation. What better way the to have a pint a raise a glass! A traditional style pub with good staff, beer choices and food. Outside seating is with a nice view of Southampton Water.

TBH, I'd say closer to 3.5.

I'm going to focus on the negatives first.

Lack of choice on the menu - this place should consider itself lucky that there's no real competition in the budget market in Hythe, particularly in the evenings (even though I was on an afternoon visit). There is a lot for kids to choose from, but for adults, the choice was very limited and basic. The presentation wasn't great either. The furniture wasn't in great condition, a lot of wear and tear, particularly on the floor. Disability access is generally ok and they have good access to the toilet, but I wasn't impressed that they sat us on top of a step, especially as they saw my Grandmother couldn't walk very far and uses a scooter to get around. The mens toilets are very similar to the layout you would expect to find in the USA. If you're using a cubicle rather than a urinal, there are big gaps above and under the main part of the door, leaving you with a lack of privacy.

THAT SAID

The food and the service was quick and great. The meals are definitely NOT like a Wetherspoon and are prepared using real quality ingredients, rather than the microwave rubbish Wetherspoon opt to use. Prices are fair and the managers are extremely caring and friendly. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, but being outside of the city (albeit still not that far), it works and suits this establishment well. Ideally located, and if you're an adult who fancies acting a bit younger and wants a child's meal, they will make a larger portion size!

If you work on points 1,2 and 4 in particular of my negative critiques, then I see no reason why this place won't do even better in the future. Keep up...

We went to this pub last Sunday for lunch and was so impressed by the meal that we went again this Sunday and took my sister. On both occasions we had the Sunday lunch and struggled to eat it all. Five different vegetables and all fresh crispy roast potatoes and loads of succulent beef and pork. Great value for money a lovely beer garden overlooking the Solent. Very polite and friendly service and staff. Looking forward to our next visit which I'm sure will be very soon . A great pub good ales and Cider spotlessy clean and great value for money. Thank you for...

Really interesting pub this one, the front end has retained separated bar areas which makes you feel like you're stepping back in time, it was a lovely feel and looked great and then when you go through to the back bar you're launched into a modern almost estate pub vibe, pool table, dart board, juke box and several tv's playing different sports. Fairly friendly locals and fair service with food reasonably priced and portion sizes pretty decent. A very interesting place to go almost wished we'd stayed in the classic front end to eat, but overall,...
