Britannia — Restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Called in today with my daughter and 2 granddaughters ordered food and drinks the place was very quiet. 2 people had ordered food and we assumed we were next. Wrong a couple of women with kids got served food before us, we had now waited nearly an hour. I paid £40 for our meals with 4 soft drinks, when the food did arrive it was diabolical my Sunday lunch of Turkey was inedible, my daughter chose the Sunday Roast beef that was black and burnt and my grandaughter had hickory chicken that looked grey and uninviting. As for the youngest grandaughter she had pizza, carrot wedges and cut up garlic bread that looked like it was being thrown out for the birds. I did complain and the lady who came to look at our food was disgusted and took them away and we could hear her chastising the chef ( he just looked like he couldn't be bothered). I was offered a refund but not in full. £26 :77 was refunded as we had drank our drinks and kept the pizza as the little one was hungry, I find this totally unacceptable as the inconvenience of waiting and then sub standard food most places would have offered a full refund. I certainly will not be visiting this place again and wouldn't recommend it either to anyone thinking of going...

We recently visited during the pandemic, the signings were a little confusing as to where we were supposed to enter (especially as I havent been back to Stoke for a good few months). Eventually finding our way in we were greeted by a lovely staff member who explained everything to us including if we were to come in contact with anyone with covid we would be promptly contacted on the bookees number.

We had ordered some food and had some drinks. The mobile app was very easy to navigate and I was able to order my food and drink to the table easily. The food was delicious especially the bbq chicken wings. Drinks were quick and reasonably priced. My only gripe was when we were there, at one point there was a large group of people all trying to surround one table, but it seemed as if they were seperate groups trying to sit together so nothing with the pub.

Overall I recommend the britannia, had a great meal and...

Amazing pub, lovely owner and bar staff. We popped in for a bite to eat a few weeks ago to be told, don't know where the chef is, he's new and not turned up yet! So, we lefted and ate somewhere else. Went back a few weeks later....Chef was running late, not a problem.....but after waiting for the "Chef " to turn up, the food came out cold, presentation was horrendous and not correct to the menu description. The lovely lady behind the bar took the food away and was very professional.....the food came out again.....still didn't keep to the menu description and it was so amazingly obvious certain aspects of the meal were re-heated!!!! Great team of bar staff and owner......your so called Chef will lose you so much...
