I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hand & Trumpet, our local pub, and I must say it was an overall delightful experience that deserves a solid 5-star rating. This charming establishment impressed me in various aspects, including the staff, service, food quality, and atmosphere.
First and foremost, the staff at the Hand & Trumpet were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout my visit. They greeted me with warm smiles and made sure I felt comfortable and well-cared for during my entire stay. Their exceptional service truly added to the overall enjoyment of my evening.
Speaking of service, I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency and professionalism of the waitstaff. My orders were promptly taken, and the food was served in a timely manner. It's rare to find such a well-coordinated team in a local pub, and it made the dining experience even more enjoyable.
Now, let's talk about the food quality. The Hand & Trumpet exceeded my expectations with its delectable offerings. Each dish was prepared to perfection, showcasing a blend of flavors that left my taste buds dancing with delight. From the starters to the main course, the culinary skills displayed here are truly commendable.
The atmosphere at the Hand & Trumpet was another highlight of my visit. Despite it being a quiet evening, the ambiance was cozy and inviting. The rustic decor and dim lighting created a warm and intimate setting that was perfect for a relaxing dinner. It's a great place to unwind and enjoy good company.
However, there were a few minor downsides to my experience. The menu itself was a bit random, and the dishes didn't seem to have a cohesive theme. While the food was undeniably delicious, I couldn't help but feel that some of the options could be better curated to create a more harmonious dining experience.
Additionally, I couldn't help but miss the Ploughman's lunch that used to be available at the Hand & Trumpet. It was a favorite of mine, and I hope they consider bringing it back in the future.
In conclusion, the Hand & Trumpet is a hidden gem in our local dining scene. The outstanding staff, impeccable service, top-notch food quality, and inviting atmosphere make it a must-visit establishment. While there were some minor menu quirks, they did little to diminish the overall excellence of the experience. I eagerly look forward to my next visit to the Hand & Trumpet and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone seeking a memorable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was a busy Saturday evening and we were lucky to get a table for 6. Our group comprised 3 adults two teens and an 8 YO. We ordered quickly but there was quite a wait for food and one of the party didn't get their meal until we had all nearly finished ours. We also ordered a jug of water with the drinks which didn't arrive till after the food and it was awful it tasted of chlorine or dishwasher tablets š
The standard of food was ok to good.6/10
The Portion sizes were reasonable but I thought £7. 25 was rich for a small piece of pate and four 3" x 2" strips of toast with some salad leaves and a blob of chutney. They should offer bigger portions or more toast.
My main was a steak burger and chips - which is what I got, the burger itself had a piece of under cooked bacon (fat still white) it said cheese on the menu but I didn't taste any and a teaspoon of coleslaw - It was OK. šchips we're medium fries, nice but overcooked, but no condiments offered? so I had to ask, I mean tomato/BBQ sauce at least with burgers and children.
The waitress dropped a huge bottle of ketchup off 15 minutes later and that was all.
My main was Ā£13. 95 but it was just burger and chips and a pinch of coleslaw and pickle. I could have eaten two of the burgers, and no I'm not fat or greedy š
I had 2 pints of Cheshire beer, my child had a kid's portion of Fish fingers and chips, reasonable and decent size for a pub at Ā£6. 95 and a glass of Coca-Cola. my bill was Ā£48.00 Inc VAT and sugar Tax whatever that is. My friend wasn't impressed with his Cod and chips, he asked for the small version which was Ā£10 and got the same size as the kids meal which was Ā£5.95... š¤
We didn't have a pudding because we had lost interest and one of our group was still eating her main that arrived late.
On the whole I wouldn't recommend the Hand & Trumpet it's a little tired inside now and not to the standard of the other Brunning and Price pubs especially the Dysart Arms or the Bull. Maybe it was just a busy night and poor service but its what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Hand and Trumpet is one of our favourite places to visit. It is reassuringly one of the Brunning and Price Group pubs. All their pubs are of the same high standard. Spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming and all totally different. The pub is very big inside yet still feels quite cosy. The tables are spaced so that you are never very close to any other table and you have your own space. No squeezing between people here but still quite intimate. Just lovely and relaxing with good beers and wines and nice food. The big drawback for me however is that the menu is too clever by half. Some of the combinations seem very strange, it is almost as though the chef cuts the words up from previous menus and then shakes them up in a hat. He must then pull out several at a time to make todays dishes. Some dishes are recognisable but then something is substituted that just spoils it e.g. Wild mushrooms on"toasted brioche" with a poached egg and truffle butter! I had this when we went there this Tuesday. Potentially very nice but spoilt by using Brioche. What the heck would I want what is basically a "sweet cake bread" with these lovely mushrooms for? Anyway my wife always finds something nice to eat which is most important. I prefer to keep things simple and "if it aint bust...
