Manna Indian Restaurant in Newcastle is a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic Kerala cuisine. Their Jumbo Kizhi Porotta is an absolute must-try. It's a flavorful package with tender, well-spiced meat and soft porottas wrapped in banana leaf, which adds an aromatic twist to the dish. The portion is generous, living up to its "jumbo" name, and it's served hot, sealing in all the flavors.
Another standout is the Chattichoru. Presented in a traditional clay pot, this meal offers a mix of rice, curry, and side dishes like thoran (stir-fried vegetables), pickles, and fish fry. It’s an explosion of flavors in every bite, with the earthy flavor from the clay pot adding an authentic touch to this Kerala favorite.
Finally, their Chicken Biriyani doesn’t disappoint. It's well-balanced, with fragrant basmati rice, succulent chicken pieces, and a blend of spices that hits the right notes without overpowering. The biriyani comes with all the classic accompaniments—raita, pickle, and a boiled egg—completing a truly satisfying meal.

Read moreI recently visited Manna Gift Indian Restaurant, a Kerala eatery specializing in South Indian cuisine. They offer traditional dishes that are hard to find abroad with authentic flavors. One standout is Ellum Kappayum, also known as Kappa Biriyani, which is a delicious and spicy blend of partially mashed tapioca with beef cooked with bones. Another favorite is Paal Kappa, a delightful combination of mashed tapioca mixed with a rich coconut milk-based gravy, offering a creamy and comforting taste. The Kizhi Parotta features layered flatbread soaked in a thick beef gravy, wrapped in a banana leaf, and steamed to enhance its flavors. An unusual yet popular pairing in Kerala is the Beef and Banana Fry, which combines sweet banana fritters with spicy beef fry, creating a unique blend of flavors. The food at Manna Gift is amazing, and the prices are very reasonable. I’ve visited a few times, and the well-mannered receptionist has always suggested good dishes. Overall, I give this...
Read moreWe had a truly delightful meal at Mannagift Restaurant, where every dish was rich flavors and authentic Kerala charm. We started with the classic Pazham Pori—crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside, paired wonderfully a perfect with the beef was cooked to perfection—tender, spicy, and deeply flavorful, with the crispy pappadam. The main course was good in itself: the Paal Kappa was creamy and comforting, the Kappa Biriyani was unique and flavorful with a satisfying texture, and the Chatti Choru brought everything together with its homely, layered taste.
Every dish was excellent, capturing the essence of Kerala cuisine with both heart and skill. Highly recommended for anyone craving soulful, traditional food.
A special shoutout to staff members Danila, who were warm, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. And hats off to Chef Appu for the incredible food—his passion and skill came through...
