The Café at Beechwood — Restaurant in Newport

I say this with a heavy heart because I want to support local business and this is on a surface level a very pretty coffee shop. This is our local coffee shop and we would probably go here all the time or bring friends here a lot more often but the prices are eye watering. A coffee here in terms of volume to cost is probably the same if not more expensive than a Costa or Starbucks elsewhere. Everything on the menu is extortionately priced. It's a lovely location but if I were visiting Newport I can think of other coffee shops in the area with better views and locations that are far more affordable. This place has so much potential but seems to be trapped in a different time zone , that time being 2020 . What is with the lack of table service and paper cups ? Why is there a beeper fob system for a small cafe ? It’s not a high customer turnover venue based in london . Totally impersonal way to run a business with the team locked behind a counter as if security is a massive concern . Coffee was fine , food was a salad thing with grains and chicken, the chicken was like something from a birdseye box, mediocre and inoffensive. Terrible value for money. The food is good, not exceptional for the price but nice enough We tried to order a standard breakfast but they wouldn’t let us unless we paid per item which was so expensive- over £10 for a standard breakfast and the girl just shrugged and said I know. Good food but the menu needs to be more versatile. It’s busy though so there’s plenty of people who want to go there….
