The Genoa — Restaurant in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council

This is only about the Genoa in Newry not Warrenpoint which is excellent. Some staff need to be retrained in food hygiene. A staff member wearing gloves was working with raw fish, without changing her gloves or washing her hands she moved to an area and started to clean the area with a tea towel as well as wipe down a green cutting board. She then moved over to the fryers and handled a utensil and stirred the chips before moving back to work with the raw fish again. She then moved back to the fyers and served chips even touching the chips with her gloved hands before serving them. All this was done without changing gloves or washing her hands. This is the first thing you are told in food hygiene, to prevent food contamination from bacteria thus preventing food poisoning do not cross contaminate, change gloves/wash hands everytime you move from one work...

Called in tonight for takeaway tonight appalled to say the least, ordered our food by a pleasant girl then whilst waiting some woman(seemed to be management) start eating chicken goujon in front of our faces while at the counter., then 2 mins later pulled another 3/4 goujons from the fryer put on plate and poured herself a garlic dip, then going out to the sit in area with half a goujon hanging out of her mouth was totally unbelievable. Not one moment of hand washing whilst plating food followed by a young girl who had come over from ice cream counter who scooped a portion of chips onto plate whilst looking round her and another example of no hand washing. Saturday 3rd December 3:30pm. Me and a few mates decided to call there for some food after training. Stood at the counter and a blonde girl asked if we were sitting in or taking away, I replied ‘sitting in’ and she replied, ‘take a seat’ and walked away. She said it in a passive aggressive way but we still decided to sit down and give it a chance. The seats we went to were dirty and hadn't been cleaned. We waited and she came over and threw the menus down and walked away, not a word was said to us. We all felt that the service wasn’t up to standard for the name of the place so we walked out. Went to McDonald’s and have to say even their service was better! Don’t mean to be petty but I was very disappointed, I have no intention of coming back and definitely wouldn’t...
