Really friendly and helpful staff here. Service was a bit slow but understandably as it was busy - especially at the bar. I think it is table service however we did go up to make our orders as we found this quicker.
The camembert starter was absolutely out of this world and I quickly pinched my partner's dish over my nachos - they were okay and I love the fact I've finally found a place that doesn't put chilli's all over everything - I just fell for the honey and rosemary drizzled cheese. Yum!
The main took a while to come and think that along side filling up on two ciders while waiting meant by the time it came I actually wasn't hungry enough for it anymore which was a bit annoying because it was really tasty. I had the surf and turf which was three huge prawns (unpeeled but I don't mind peeling), a bowl of delicious fried calamari, a rump steak (which was actually quite juicy), coleslaw and a huge portion of chips. It goes without saying I couldn't eat it all and I must admit I did wish it had come with something green, a bit of leaf, some peas that kind of thing but that's just me. Everything tasted lovely it was just a shame I'd filled up before it came!
Ambience we nice and we were able to snuggle away into a corner and feel like we were the only people there for some time.
So let's talk about the toilets. First off they're not easy to find and I didn't see any signs for navigation. Yes the doors make little sense being pulls and being so heavy and loud but more than anything I am baffled at who designed the cubicles. There is no room (unless you like squishing your legs up again the sanitary waste collection bin) to get in because the door comes in too far. So that was fun... Then I went to wash my hands and a basin had a cute paper note by it saying please do not use. Don't worry there were two sinks! And thankfully two cubicles as before I found my chosen throne I entered the cubicle furthest from the door to find sick trailing down the pan. So all in all a fun visit to the bathroom and a bit disconcerting regarding the food however here we are a day on and no bad stomach.
So a nice place to eat just a bit busy and hit and miss...
Read moreI've been to several table table restaurants and this is the only one I have a bad thing to say about and one of very few negative reviews I ever leave. I entered the venue with a well groomed, clean dog having checked on the door if no dogs are allowed. I went straight to the bar to order a second drink. A nervous sounding member of staff arrived (male, dark hair, beard) next to me and told me no dogs are allowed in the restaurant. I apologised and told him I checked for a notice at the door but there wasn't one. He then stated "this is a restaurant" and explained to me dogs are allowed outside only. I told him I was alone and asked if someone could come outside to take my order, his response to this was "this is a restaurant". I thought he didn't hear me right so I (again) asked him if a waiter could take my order outside yet his response remained "this is a restaurant". I was about to leave when another customer at the bar kindly offered to get me my drink and bring it outside to me (obviously I gave her the cash).
On reflection this seemed very wrong. Firstly dogs are welcome in bars and restaurants in the UK unless the venue states otherwise. By law the dog needs to not be a contamination risk, which is the owners responsibility. Secondly the restaurant area was empty, bar one table which I was nowhere near. And finally the waiters attitude was out right appalling.
As someone who has helped run a restaurant I personally would have been mortified if a customer offered to do my job for me or did indeed do a better job, I would have insisted I to take the order from my table outside considering I was alone with a dog. This would have been a fine outcome.
This review is negative purely down to the bad attitude, poorly educated, robotic member of staff I encountered.
Interestingly the same member of staff did absolutely nothing to boundary the group rowdy customers sat outside the front of the venue (aside from pouring them even more pints).
On a side note, I'm due to eat in a mitchelin star restaurant tonight, and guess what? The dog is welcome in...
Read moreBooked a table for 7pm on their own Web booking site. Turned up just before 7pm and was told that there was no table available for about 2 hours. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, there was 2 tables full with groups of about 8 on each, and a couple of small tables with 2 at, so I suggested that I eat in the bar area(something that they do offer), I was told we are not doing bar food tonight, despite menus on every table and a note saying quote your table number when ordering food.
I was also told there will be a party of 9 arriving shortly and they will need to be told the same thing. The woman at front of house seemed quite proud about it and also stated they she had been turning people away all day.
I explained that how could I reserve a table on THEIR own website that didn't exist? I was told to ignore the website booking service, as a computer cannot know how busy they were. I explained that the website must be managed by the restaurant surely, and not expected to think for itself????
I sat and had a beer watching as the woman turned away couples, groups etc, in total amazement.
It is strange that in the present times a business like this can afford to turn away so so many paying customers.
Absolutely ridiculous.
So there you go, I can't tell you how good the food is as I never got that far.
I don't know about being called table table, this one should change its name to no table no table.
After a day's work and staying in the hotel next door I just wanted a hot meal.
This experience was terrible and I'd never book a table at this place again. I didn't even get any kind of apology, just glared at like it was me that had done something wrong.
Please be aware that this restaurant is obviously very understaffed and the staff they do have are very unprofessional, and remember just because you have booked a table for 8pm you may not get it until 10pm....take your...
