Zest — Restaurant in North Devon

We went there for a nice coffee, and maybe have a bite to eat.

The coffees where lovely and would definitely recommend them to anyone who likes a good coffee!

My zest breakfast was great, good portion size and lovely food. After I was about half way through my meal, we remembered that we had ordered a carrot cake...

The staff seemed too busy drinking tea and chatting with thier friend, and completely forgot about our cake!

We didn't go up and ask about it as they were talking so much we couldn't find a time to but in and ask without being rude!

We went up to pay, and I asked for the carrot cake to be removed from our bill as we never received it, and all we got in return was a half-arsed apology and none of the staff seemed to actually care about the mess up.

If the staff were polite and apologised properly it wouldn't have left such a bad taste in our mouth. As people who work in food service environments we understand that mistakes happen, but there's no need to not apologise properly and even just try and act sorry about the matter.

This whole experience made us feel like we should have just gone to a different coffee shop!

I think some staff training may be in need! I believe it would have been a different story if we got served by a different...

Nice little place on the corner that we found purely out of chance. We were staying nearby and before going round the shops we wanted an early lunch somewhere. Very busy around the lunch time and clearly a locals favourite. Staff were friendly and the food was really nice. I ordered a pizza and my partner ordered a panini. My only criticism is that I had to go to the tills to order anything (and request the bill) as the staff didn't really come to the tables at all, and I'm not a 'wave your hand around until someone notices' kind of person. Waitress did her job, but a smile wouldn’t have gone a miss, seemed like she didn’t like her job or indeed may not be in the right career of hospitality. A hostess should be warm and welcoming. A can of coke with the glass would have been nice instead of as I witnessed a can shared between two different tables.. the food……. Dirty fries or rather swimming in a puddle of oil fries….. never have I ever seen so much oil I tipped it all out on to plate and napkins soaked it up! Awful will...
