Such a shame, had been to this pub years ago and it was amazing. Chose it to celebrate my birthday with my family. There were 9 of us. What a shocker, never have we ever been served such poor food. Fish was awful, over cooked and hardly any fish when you broke the batter. The fries were like a cheap version of stringfellows. Fillet steak ordered medium was well over done, ribs were like mush. The cook (not chef) was sitting in the bar on our arrival and went into the kitchen to rustle up our meals. We all left hungry, and we didn't pay for the steak and the fish, really the whole lot should have been refunded for the worst ever dining experience we have ever had, we even got my birthday cake back from behind the bar to take home as we couldn't bare being in there anymore. No Manager came to apologise and it was left to a young girl to deal with us. Had it been my pub I would have done everything to try and resolve. I would have preferred them to reject the booking if they could not cater for a large party. Awful and...
Read moreWe went for dinner to the Hermit of Redcoats a couple of times this week as we are on holiday visiting our family. We couldn’t have chosen a better place, the food was excellent both times. I had lamb shoulder the first day and pork sirloin the second, both were delicious and far better than the standard Pub food. Everything nicely cooked and what to say about the deserts, sticky toffee pudding and Belgian waffle with salted caramel were the perfect ending with complementary Frangelico on the house. As much as the food was excellent, what we really loved is the atmosphere that made us feel like at home. George and Simon gave us the best service always with a smile. Genuine and lovey people. Going back to Spain now but already missing our family and the Hermit of Redcoats. We will be back soon! Great discovery and highly...
Read moreRIDICULOUSLY TINY PORTION SIZES!
I'll cut straight to the point. The food was tasty but the portion sizes were so small I felt the pub was taking us for fools. We ordered a bottle of wine and they took so long to bring it out, that by the time it finally came, we'd finished the main course, which didn't take long by the way. So I sent the wine back. When the bill came, they charged us for the wine! And two Gins we didn't even drink! I told the owner at the end of the meal that I was starving and would have to go home to eat something else. He took some money off the bill but we still left very disappointed. We don't have unusually large appetites, we just wanted larger portions. I got the impression this place thought it was a Michelin restaurant. Long way to...
