Four of us visited the Sculthorpe Aviator this afternoon for a family Sunday lunch to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We had booked a table in advance.
We asked to be seated outside and were shown to a table. The friendly waiter took our food orders before drinks were offered - most places take a drink order whilst they leave you with the menu for a while.
When the mains arrived (after quite a wait) they were adequate, but not great (the roast beef was nice, but the cauliflower was rock hard. The portion sizes were quite small too. The waiter didn't return to check if everything was OK with our order, or to ask if we required any more drinks.
Once we had finished our meals, after about 25 minutes we had to ask the waiter to take away our plates - so he took away two of them. After a wait of several more minutes we had to specifically ask him to take away the other two.
We then told him that we'd like to order desserts. He asked if we'd like our menus back - were we expected to have memorised the desserts when we saw the menu an hour earlier? The desserts took about 30 minutes to arrive. Two of our party had ordered a cheesecake with raspberries and strawberries. Both ladies found this to be completely inedible, with a very salty, sour taste. Again, our waiter didn't return to check if everything was OK.
We didn't see him again until he returned with our bill. We complained about the desserts and the shockingly inattentive service. Throughout the two hours we spent there, there had been no more than one other party eating outside. Despite this, we had only been offered our initial drink order and no-one had checked if any of our meals were OK. They were obviously busier inside the restaurant, so we were left to feel like second-class citizens outside.
He was mildly apologetic, agreeing that the service had been poor but they only had two waiting staff on duty. We asked that our complaints be passed on to the manager. We paid our bill (minus the two inedible desserts) and sadly won't be rushing back to the...
Read moreFantastic place for food, we decided to try the Aviator and they are doing an offer on Wednesday and Thursday lunch time. They are offering 2 courses for £15 and there is plenty to choose from. I decided to have Fish and chips and the wife went for the Steak and Ale pie we ordered our Desserts at the same time. The member of staff who took our order was very friendly, the Aviator is also dog friendly and that is another reason for going there. The dog was made welcome too as the member of staff told us to help ourselves to the dog treats and the water. We didn't have to wait long before our main course arrived, it looked really nice and well presented. The smells from the food were amazing and you could tell everything was home made by the chef. My fish and chips were the best I have had in a long time, it was a beautiful bit of Cod and the chips were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My wife said her Pie was beautiful and the seasoned mashed spuds along with the veg was very filling. After finishing off our main course we gave it a few minutes before asking for our desserts, we both ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding which came with a butter scotch sauce and Vanilla ice cream oh and not forgetting the caramelised walnut sitting on top of the ice cream, it was delicious and again it was all made in house. We have booked again and a few more of our fellow caravans have decided to book also. Highly recommended if you want qualify food at...
Read moreWe arrived around half past 7 for our booked table, we were greeted by a friendly young lady who said that due to staff illnesses there was only one chef in the kitchen and there had been two large tables orders put into the kitchen, so warned us there may be a delay. We took our seats and ordered drinks, knowing they were pushed, we relaxed and didn’t worry too much, although the server came over and took our food order as soon as she was free. I ordered the Aviator burger and my partner ordered the Halloumi burger, minus the mushroom. We decided to mull over our day, so when our food arrived, it was somewhat of a surprise! It was well worth the wait too, my burger was tasty well cooked and the bacon jam was a lovely addition. The Halloumi burger was just as tasty. We didn’t take long to eat them as we were hungry. After we’d finished and our plates were cleared we were offered the dessert menu, which we both chose from, I had the sticky toffee pudding and my partner had the brownie. Both were well presented and the accompaniments were perfect. The food was excellent and the service was exemplary, given they were short staffed the team did...
