The Village Chippy — Restaurant in North Norfolk

These days fish & chips are a real treat at around £20 plus for a regular size portion, any additions ( large sausage, mushy peas etc ) charged at quite a price £3. On the whole very nice and tasty fish complimented by tasty chips. However, called in last night, incredibly warm outside but inside a few too many flys for my liking, these are free it seems with my order. Non the less, in my own kitchen one fly is one fly too many so is dispatched very quickly . Flys landing on surfaces, walking over the prep area is not a great look, surely you can take steps to alleviate this as the two simply don’t go together! We live in between Wroxham and Stalham which both have no lack of fish and chip shops locally but none of them in any way, shape or form come close to the friendliness or the wonderful food. Cook with beef lard which always produces such a wonderful flavour and consistency to the food, you cannot beat this chippy. Yes, when they are busy it can take 20-40 minutes to get your food but it isn't hard to ring and order first to avoid the waiting, that way everybody is happy. Just think of it this way, the only reason they are this busy is for the quality of their food and service, always a friendly face. Service was fab, but unfortunately most of the food was inedible. If you blind tested the chips against the cardboard box they come in, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. I feared for my teeth on some of them. My batter off the cod was saturated in fat. I took a mouthful and spat it out. The cod inside though was lovely. Peas and curry sauce were tasteless, almost as if they’d been watered down. There was a 5 inch hair in the gravy.
