I organised a get together of a group of approx 30 friends & colleagues which took place last week. From the first meeting several weeks previously, I met up with Bobby & Charlie who were both really helpful in assisting me to choose the best options for my event. I chose to have some catering & I have to say it was fabulous. Everyone was very complimentary. Although the bar was open to the public, our area was sectioned off and marked reserved so we could enjoy ourselves in relative privacy, with suitable background music playing. It all worked really well. I liked the fact that I could add to the catering with my own little bits & pieces too. Michelle, who was working the bar that evening, was also really great. She was friendly & attentive, & kept the area free of empty glasses throughout. It was really good value for money, & we got to take doggy bags of leftover food home as well. Everyone said what a great night it had been, & we will definitely do it again. I would recommend the Sandpiper & its staff wholeheartedly. Thanks, guys!

The Sandpiper is a very nice pub with nice surroundings but is let down by the food so I'm going to say very disappointing. I had the Mexican Chicken Burger, although the chicken breast was succulent the salsa sauce was so salty I had to scrape it off to even attempt to eat it. The burger is so big I had to eat it with a knife and fork as it just collapsed which meant the paper lining on the plate was tearing and sticking to the burger whilst cutting it. My wife had Scampi and she said its the first time shes had stringy scampi that was tough to cut. My son had a cheese burger which he enjoyed, but hey hes only 9 years old and has a lot to learn about good food. And the tomato sauce bottle on the table was filthy as you can see by the pictures, so we didn't use it. And finally none of the staff came to ask us how the food was, because if they had I would not have left this review in fairness.

The food is fine, but the false advertising outside lets it down. We went this Friday for the 2 Fish n Chip meals for a tenner (as advertised on the front of the pub) to be told it no longer applies and management reserve the right to remove any advertised offers. Not really great customer service. A shame as in the past we've been well looked after here...

We thought with things getting back to some normality we’d treat ourselves to Sunday lunch at the Piper.

We booked a slot, completed the check and trace, got our temperatures checked at the door before being shown to a clean table.

Everything was looking good so far.

We ordered one beef, one chicken dinner and a chicken goujons for the little one which she enjoyed but the beef and chicken dinners were unusual.

4 roast potatoes, cabbage, a huge Yorkshire pudding and what can only be described as watery blended ā€œpast the inch of its lifeā€ turnip with the look and consistency of baby food. No other vegetables were brought out or offered. The beef was dry and so tough it was a great workout for the forearms to cut and jaw to chew. The chicken was also dry and unappealing. We would have asked what happened to the turnip and was this a new twist on veg? But no one asked how the meal was even with 4 people working on the bar. The staff were disinterested in diners.

To summarise, a very poor effort. We will not be returning to the piper for food again.

On the plus side the Heineken was...

Not bad service, but pitiful and amatuer food, I chose the Cod and chips being that we are by the sea and all that, what a mistake, the batter was soft and greasy on the outside and uncooked on the inside, the fish was billed as cod but I wasn't convinced ! it was small and skinny and no way was it worth ten quid, i suppose my problem is that I was comparing it to the Queens Head in cullercoats where I had a real Cod last week which was twice the size and two quid cheaper, the chips were ridiculously large and barely cooked and the radioactive looking and tasting mushy peas were thankfully minimalistic, my wife had "pie" which looked suspiciously like it had been bought from the local chip shop or supermarket, the tall young man i complained too commented " but you ate it all" so as well as having an unusual attitude for his chosen profession had a problem with his sight, as I left all of the batter all of the peas and all but one of the chips, so it's back to the...
