Visited on Sunday 10th and booked the bar area because we had the two dogs in tow, last time we visited was before the refurb in February. The lay out in the bar has changed and they have squeezed too many tables into a small space. If they had thought about, people with dogs need a bit room otherwise there could be carnage, our dog is very well behaved but the only table available was in the middle of the room with nowhere for the dog to settle, there were people trying to get through both sides of us and it was almost impossible and we nearly changed our minds but my mother in law is diabetic so she needed to eat soon. No starters, just went straight for the main Sunday lunch, they must have been short staffed as it took a while to turn up. When it turned up, it was a big disappointment, meat portions have gone down and the Beef was tough and grisly, also there was an overpowering edge of pepper on the beef which was too much for a Sunday dinner. The veggies were very sparce and hardly cooked and the pigs in blankets were cremated. Most of us left quite a bit of food and my mother-in-law left loads. We reported this to the waitress and she said she had passed our comments onto the manager but no one came to talk to us, I was going to leave but my mother-in-law needed more food to boost her levels so three of us had pudding, this again took a long time to arrive, puddings were ok but it didn’t help the sheer disappointment of the experience. We have been coming to the Whitehorse for quite a few years and we had similar experiences in the past and then they change out the staff and it gets better for a while. Many years ago, when we first came the portions were small and when we went to the Hedgehog in Lichfield, we ordered extra veggies but they give proper portions and, in the end, we didn’t need to order extra. Strange how one place tries to squeeze the portions to boost profits and another gives good quality and treat the customer with respect rather than a cash cow. I will say the waitress was fine and I don’t have a grudge there but I will have to rethink about coming back with the seating squeezed as it is and the portions being reduced. In all I spent £ 140.00 which supposed to be a celebration lunch but turned into a...
Read moreNo where near as good as other reviews I'd read about this place.
My lads and I had chicken wings starters, while they were hot, the 3 small wings had no real flavour and the "Asian slaw" looked like something that had gone off in the salad draw in the bottom of the fridge. The pot of sauce that accompanied them tasted like thousand island dressing. The wife had the Duo of pate, was no where near as described on the menu.
My main was fish and chips with bread and butter. The fish was greasy, bur the weird part was the bread and butter, which came toasted one side ?? Who toasts bread and butter? We came to the conclusion that the bread was probably starting to go stale. The wife said her beef dish was really dry and thought they hadn't put the gravy on. My lads had the signature burger, which one said was ok at best and my other son only ate half and didn't enjoy it. Overall unfortunately I paid £90,00 for a meal that wasn't enjoyable at all. Drink wise it was good, apart when the waitress brought me over my second drink. As she put it down the pint overflowed that much, I had to use my napkin to stop it going all over the table. Didn't know if she noticed or not this had happened.
Didn't feel like complaining at the time as I just wanted to try somewhere different and have a nice meal without having to say it wasn't good enough and having to point out all the issues we had. Wasn't looking for money off just a nice meal. (We did have a discount through a blue light card already)
It's a shame because apart from the food it looked a nice place. Management only seem to reply to positive messages, which to me is the wrong way round. Reply to the ones that have found issues and sort them out.
Edit, The restaurant has been in touch and asked me for more details of the time and date of visit. I have supplied them with all the information and more details of my visit that day. Since then I've had NO reply back, so obviously not that bothered...
Read moreThe girl at the till point asked if we were being served, we said no. Her attitude was really awful. She then started to chat to another member of staff without saying a word to us, unbelievably rude. We asked again for a bottle of wine and could we have a table to eat. Bearing in mind in the restaurant and on the ground floor there were only 5 parties in. It was 6.30pm. She said she would check availability, then proceeded to chat again, with no wine ordered in site. Then someone else took us to a table, Katie asked would we like a drink. we had to order wine again as the girl on the bar did bother to follow through serving us a £24.00 bottle of wine. Then we had the delightful Katie and Tailor come to the table. What a difference, polite, helpful, really genuinely caring people. A sheer delight and impressive service. We have always booked at the white horse. That was the first time we hadn't. It was quiet and there was no stampede. We have always eaten at the white horse, for more than 20 years. Sadly we stopped going there for health reason's due to illness. The girl at the bar made no effort, and clearly she just didn't want be there or bothered. I have worked in customer service all my life, and find thay attitude disgraceful. We spend a minimum of £90 plus . How sad it is that people look forward to a special evening of good food and a couple of bottles of wine, to be then made to feel ,like they should not have even walked into the pub. We don't ask for special treatment, but I do expect respect.Thank god for the lovely Katie and Tailor, as they restored our faith in coming in to the white horse again. However if we have a return of rudeness I will not hesitate to report the behaviour immediately. She missed out on her tip, the others didn't. Well done to Katie and Tailor. A massive thank you them.
