The Golden Dragon in Shardlow is, without doubt, the best Chinese in the area. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing a takeaway, the quality of food and service is consistently excellent.

Takeaway experience is always smooth — their online menu is easy to use, and they’re upfront about wait times, which is rare and appreciated. Just be warned: payday weekends can mean over an hour’s wait, but in typical Golden Dragon fashion, the food almost always comes out way earlier than expected. That’s great, unless you don’t head out right after ordering — your dinner will be cold if you’re not prompt!

Parking can be tricky. The car park gets very busy, and I’ve seen the odd bump, so take care when manoeuvring in and out.

As for the restaurant itself — it’s always buzzing. I’ve never seen it empty. It’s particularly popular with larger family groups, so if you’re dining as a couple, be prepared for a bit of noise. During peak times, staff can struggle to keep on top of clearing tables quickly, but the atmosphere is still great, and everyone clearly loves the food.

Went here on a Sunday for the buffet to celebrate an 18th birthday in the family. I can't speak for the normal menu but the buffet was awful. There were a handful of dishes on the smallest table you've ever seen, non of which were warm let alone hot. We asked more than once for fresh items in the hope that something would be hot but nothing was. The taste of the food was a standard Chinese, nothing special. The service was also incredibly poor. Rude staff who didn't want to be there and begrudged answering any questions. I'm writing this thinking maybe we were being difficult, but I asked if they had prosecco to which the answer was "yes" followed by silence and a glare. I asked if I could have a drinks menus to have a look and he sighed and walked away. The waiter came back with drinks menus but ignored us for the duration of our meal. I like the decoration of this restaurant, which includes art dragon eggs,big vases, mirrors, and more. Some of the tables had extenders, good idea specially when you have a big order. Parking is available for free charge,but probably they need extra space as too many people are visiting it. I advise you to book a table if it is possible or come on the opening time to avoid any disappointment. We arrived at the opening time, and in 30 minutes, it was getting full. The food was good, but make sure to ask if you don't like spicy food or certain ingredients.The staff is very friendly and is knowledgeable of all the dishes they provide.
