The Monkey Walk - JD Wetherspoon — Restaurant in North West Leicestershire

A nice local pub in the heart of coalville. I went in to meet a friend. There was lots of spacious seating to choose from, and a long bar. The toilets however, was upstairs. I ordered a lemonade and lime. And I was charged £1.99, which is an average price. I also ordered food, and my first choice wasn't available, 14oz rump steak. I was offered a 8oz rump for £2.99, which was a great price. I ordered two, one for me and one for my friend, we also ordered peppercorn sauce at £1.25 each, and a strongbow dark fruits. I asked for one of the steaks blue, and the other medium rare, and the staff member serving me, had no clue what 'blue' was, I asked politely to mention it to the chef, hoping the chef would sort it. However, when the food arrived at the table, it was described as rare, and the other medium rare. I did mention to the staff member that one of the steaks was ment to be blue, but again, this staff member had no clue, but my friend just decided to accept it. We both cut into the steak and we both noticed they was both cooked medium. I wasn't shocked, just disappointed. Overall, the food tasted good, and the peppercorn sauce was also good. However, I was disappointed with the staff; a lack of basic culinary knowledge and enthusiasm. For whatever reason, they just didn't seem happy or comprehend what I was asking for. Summary: The venue was spacious, but the toilets was upstairs and could be difficult for some people. The food was good, but not amazing, and items from the menu may not be available upon ordering. The staff lacked basic knowledge and enthusiasm, but this will need to be addressed with the management. Prices for drinks was average, but the special offer price for the 8oz steak was very good. Stay Away. I ordered a vegan pizza (see the image below) and the quality was substandard, the texture of the base was like tough, thin cardboard and the appearance of the 'pizza' overall was of very low standard. I would personally be embarrassed that something like that represents my establishment. In my opinion, it would be difficult even for an experienced attorney to defend the quality of it. The interior and atmosphere of this establishment is dark and oppressive, making you feel tense. To compound matters the management are unprofessional. For example, serious false allegations can be made against you by an individual(s) - known in law terms as hearsay, with no hard evidence to substantiate the hearsay and it is their word (the individual who made the allegation) against yours; management sides with the individual(s) making the allegation resulting in unjust barring. In my opinion, a downmarket establishment with very serious problems, there is something very wrong about this establishment. I would strongly advise against using this establishment. I had to write this review, as this experience was bearing heavy on my soul, because i was the truth regarding the matter and God knows this. It is certainly worth paying more sometimes to eat, drink and socialise elsewhere and it is thanks to God that i am in a position to do so. No parking, had to park in a pay and dislay up the road, Horrendous food, first dish I chose was not available, so chose second dish, eggs undercooked, chips had been cooked and reheated...husbands fish and chips...well! The fish was a very dark brown batter, been in way to long, fish very dry, chips again were reheated...the waiter bought them to the table and slid them to us then threw the cutlery on the table and walked off....2 security patrolling the pub, a fight broke out In the smoking area which spilled into the pub, shouting screaming and alot of restraint going on, men climbing on the roof of the outhouse in the smoking area trying to locate the man who kicked off, security man shouting who started it....the man had thrown a drink over a woman...he left...atmosphere very charged and un welcoming...never again will we be going to this wetherspoons absolutely diabolical from start to finish, Definitely woukd not take children of any age,will not be recommending to...
