My friends and I were on a bus tour for the giant causeway. We stopped for lunch in this restaurant. We arrived first, sat first, and our orders were taken first, which includes three stews. Note that these dishes were preoreded on the bus en route to the restaurant. Unfortunately, halfway to the timefrime given to us to finish our meals, our order has not arrived yet. I approached the girls waiting for our table and asked about it. They said that the stews were mistakenly given to other costumers and they have ran out already. The waitress assigned to our table apologized and offered us to fix some burgers, chicken parcels, or whatever was left in the menu but I declined because there is not much left time for us. I told her I was close to tears because of anger and felt disrespected. She then told me that she can fix some chips to go but I said, "It is never the same." And I apologized that she is the one on the receiving end of this mishap.
Anyway, I recommend that you use table numbers to keep track of the orders that come in and which tables had been served. It is not the first time that you are catering for a large number of tourists, so I guess you should have also been prepared well for this. Lastly, if the restaurant and its man power cannot keep up, please do not agree with the travel company to feed hefty...
Read moreWe were greeted by a friendly man quite quickly (the restaurant was pretty empty) but went downhill after that.
After we seated at the table we waited 15 minutes to make orders. I had to get up to find a waitress to ask if we could order.
I was told a side of fries was a hefty portion, but it was a handful in a small silver cup. The soft drink I ordered was a little larger that an alcohol shot.
After we were served our food we were thinking about ordering more. The entire time we ate, not one waitress came to our table during our 30 min seated to eat to ask us if we needed anything else (drinks, etc). We noticed multiple waitresses not tending to the other tables either. Again, it was not busy and quite empty from customers but many waitresses floating about.
When we were finished eating, we tried to make eye contact and flag any of the many waitresses but they did not make eye contact with the table at all. After ~15 minutes waiting to pay with empty plates in front of us, we got up to find a waitress again, to pay and leave. Truly awful waitressing service. My partner also had a sick stomach later that day, but we aren’t certain if it was related to the...
Read moreWe just spent a couple of days in Ballintoy and the Carrick-a-rede bar was one of the highlights. We were staying at another hotel in the town, but the food and service there were a real disappointment. We were feeling a bit annoyed, but made our way over to The Carrick-a-rede, hoping it would be better. It certainly was! We (and our dog) were made to feel exceedingly welcome by the attentive and affable barman, Niall. The bar was warm and cozy and we got a seat next to the roaring turf fire. We made friends with another couple in the bar and as you often do, found we knew people in common. So, an initially disappointing first day of the holiday turned out to be pretty good. We went in the next day for a meal and couldn't have been more pleased. My wife got the bangers and mash and I got the cod and chips - the food was excellent, and again, the service was efficient and friendly. (Both times we were in, our dog got a bowl of water). To top it off, it was far more reasonably priced than the "other place." Ballintoy is a beautiful place to visit, but make sure you top off your sight-seeing with a visit to the Carrick-a-rede bar - you won't be...
