Al’s Express — Restaurant in Oldham

I stumbled across this place while driving through Oldham, saw some positive reviews so we parked up and went on in. The shop was very clean and bright. It was quiet inside but the phone was busy and the online order system was beeping away.

Indecisively ordered doner/chips, 9" Margarita Pizza. The guy serving was really pleasant and the service was exceptional. It was like we had known each other for years and we were just catching up. It really does go a very long way but unfortunately it's not often found anymore. Although I can imagine there is a fair share of not so nice customers around as well.

The food came fast and we finished our conversation and opted to eat in the car as it was late and we had to be on our way.

🔶Red Doner/Chips

Red Doner is not something you see often, the portion size was good although a large option on the menu would be great for greedy people like me 😂. The salad was fresh and crunchy goin for cabbage and cucumber was a refreshing change from lettuce. The chilli sauce was not spicy and tasted more like a sweet chilli vinaigrette, although it was very nice.

The long belt straps of #doner held the sauce really well, the meat was a medium cut and had a really nice meaty texture to it. Although some pieces were a little chewy and somewhat dry most of it was really good and the taste was great. The chips were cooked well, with a nice outer crunch and hot, fluffy inside. They soaked up the remnants of the chilli sauce so that was a bonus. 😁

Overall it was a nice portion of food, more is not always better but for those of us with eyes bigger than our bellies a larger option would be great as this was very moreish.

🔶9" Margarita Pizza

The pizza visually looked great and the smell was divine coming from the box. The base was a thin crust, it was soft and light, the crust however was very dry but that would have been a great crust to be dunked into a nice tub of thick creamy garlic & herb dip. The cheese was well distributed and it wasn't too greasy.

The sauce on the other hand wasn't doing it for me. I got undertones of garam masala and a very sweet tomato tang. This kind of sauce doesnt go well with plain cheese and tomato pizza in my opinion but had I opted for an apna style then it would have been a party in my mouth. 🥳 Idea: (Chicken Tikka, Keema, Achar, Donner, Fresh Tomato & Garlic dip for crust 🤯🤩).

I’ve been ordering food from them in the middle of the night since they’re open very late but they’ve been sending me way to much oiled up kebab and not even a bit was I happy with that. I’m not going to feast on food that will guarantee to kill me, i will bin that garbage and get my money back because I know I work hard for what I earn. The oil leaked out of the package and spills all over the place and ruined my gaming mat which was £65. Supposedly I’ve stolen a £100 worth of food over 4 orders which when I did the math was not even close. At least £60. Not only that they accepted my order and took a £20+ order and told me that they won’t deliver my food and something about religion. So basically taking my money without giving me my food and telling me you’re entitled to that is an example of a good Muslim? I ordered food from this place (like I do alot) they took longer than they should and I fell asleep, so I rang up to apologise that I fell asleep and if I can get my order or my money back as it was also paid for! Before all the bad comments, yes I know I shouldn't have fell asleep! But anyway the guy on the phone had an appalling attitude, he was raising his voice at me, getting really aggressive and offered me my order what was apparently still in the car from last night! That is illegal and against food and hygiene protocol! I am actually really upset as I like this place and when I do get a takeaway 9/10 I order from here, well not anymore, they have lost my custom.
