We used to live a bit closer to this place and would come here about a year or so ago. We really enjoyed the experience and so thought we would make the longer journey to go again. We've had the lamb shank a few times now, and let me tell you - the first time we went, we simply tapped the bone and all of the meat fell off. It was beautiful. This time, it was different. We arrived and the venue looks even more beautiful than I remember. They'd had a makeover of the outside and it really worked. We'd made a reservation for 6pm. We walked in and a walk in table of 4 was before us. They were kindly asked to wait in the bar area before being seated, tables weren't ready yet as it was a busy Saturday evening so we expected this. We came to the desk to let then know we have a reservation, the server said "Have a drink" and pointed at the bar. A little less tact than the previous group was told. OK, no biggie. So, we went to the bar where there was just one server on, and she was also making the drinks for all of the tables too, so we understood the delay. We ordered a bottle of wine, which arrived as soon as the server did to collect us. He picked up the bottle and showed us to a table, and we were given a menu. We pretty much knew what we were going to have anyways, so just waited for a server to take our order. And waited. And waited. Eventually our order was taken - we ordered 2 lamb shanks and some onion rings. The food came pretty quickly compared to our order being taken, and we ordered another bottle. Upon beginning the meal, we realised that the standard was nowhere near what it was when we came a year ago. The meat was a lot tougher, and the mash was quite lumpy. All in all, it was still very tasty, just not what I remember. We then waited quite a while before our plates were cleared and could order dessert. The dessert was actually pretty darn good - a red velvet cheesecake. The whole bill came to about £60 including a small tip - I can't complain at that. 2 meals, 2 bottles of wine and a dessert. Overall the meal was OK, but I wouldn't make a special trip out again for it. It cost us nearly £30 to get there and back. A shame, because this place used to be something...
Read moreLesson learnt don't go on Friday 13th. Service was slow think they take far too many bookings to cope with. We booked a table for 10 people at 7:30 didn't get the table till 8:20pm they were not attentive to us and we had to keep trying to get attention for drinks and they never came over to ask if we wanted wine with our meal or even if everything was okay. When they took are meal order we again waited ages for the starters then for the table to be cleared. Waited ages for our mains which I will only comment on mine and another family members. The starter was fine no issues but the mains course was not. I ordered ridbye steak with a side salad because I don't eat potatoes, it came with just a pile on lettuce leaves on a plate and nothing else the steak didn't even have any seasoning on it so it was bland and boring. My other family member ordered steak with mash potatoes the mash when it came it was a blob of mash that was microwaved it went crusty on top and a pile of lettuce leaves the steak was ordered medium rare and it was chewy, bland and no taste. Obviously all the steaks need cream sauces over to disguise the cooking method. The place was nearly empty and they were cleaning the tables when a waitress asked us if we wanted desserts when she took our order we asked for water the deserts came but water didn't arrive until after we had finished. It was just a total sham with the service and food was very mediocre if it wasn't for it being my mums 80th we would of walked out well before due to service or lack of it. The real shame was I know the bill was paid in full and probably nothing was said because we didn't want to make issues with it...
Read moreThe food and atmosphere was great, first time we have been here, totally forgot to get a picture of the food for this review.
All went well till the end when we got the bill. There was some extra fries added to it which they rectified straight away, good stuff. but there is misleading information on the menu regarding the steaks, I had a fillet steak which it said on the menu 'served with chip and garnish & your choice of sauce'. Now comes the misleading information as the extra price for extra sauce was already added to the steak on the bill but with it saying you get chips and your choice of sauce there was no mention of this extra charge on the menu. Apart from if you ordered extra sauce assuming in general ontop of what you get. I did question it to the server but as she was young she didn't know what to say and it seemed a little awkward so I just paid the £1.95 charge as its not going to break the bank, I just think that it should be made more clearer that you have to pay extra for the sauce which seems like its offered to you free with your steak. Apart from this I recommend going to eat here but just be aware that sauces on the steak are not free as it kinda suggests. Thanks...
