I heard about an open mic afternoon, so thought me and the missus would have a Sunday afternoon meal there and watch the open mic.
First of all, management thought it a terrific idea to put the open mic right at the back behind a great big load supporting column where nobody could see the acts. And the only seats available in that area were overrun with ferral children running around.
So we were forced to sit the other end of the pub where we couldn't see the open mic.
The menu is simple. There is very little vegetarian or vegan options. So if you are they way inclined, give this place a miss.
We ordered wings as a starter, she had the roast dinner, I had fish and chips.
After 45 minutes, our starters had still not arrived. Spoke to the barman who then went into the kitchen. We waited another ten minutes and complained again.
What was more annoying was when you looked into the kitchen, chefs more interested being on their phones and playing around with his hair, not very hygienic and they were no hair nets seen.
After an hour, our wings came out. The wings tasted really nice.
Our mains came out 15 minutes later. The missus poured her Gravy over her dinner as I put my mushy peas on my fish. We then realised both gravy and mushy peas were stone cold. Complained, dinners sent back and told 20 minutes for new dinners.
The waiter asked if we wanted complimentary drinks. I said kick in the desserts for free instead which was accepted.
The fish and chips were amazing, however the roast dinner was not good. The pork stuffing was raw in the middle and there was blood soaked string found in the beef.
There was some good talent at the open mic. Just a shame the view and the food was so poor. We won't be...
Read moreDisgusting now. Since they had the refurbishment, they changed the chef used for Sunday Carvery. We used to visit regularly, every other Sunday, the Sunday Carvery was the best in the Midlands, that chef knew how to cook, knew how his customers liked the meat and vegetables cooked and cooked it to perfection, the meat was so tender, just melted in your mouth with wonderful flavour.
However all that changed after the refurbishment, they changed the chef and now the Sunday Carvery is inedible. The first time we went after refurbishment, we noticed it wasn't as nice, however thought it might have been an off day or other chef was off ill, so tried again two more Sundays, but it got worse. The meat is not even cooked ! I don't just mean the chef is trying to cook the meats medium rare / rare, but the meats are just not cooked, gammon still raw, turkey quite pink and the beef only outside was just cooked, the inside was still raw. Now I love medium rare steak, but for a Sunday Carvery, I don't want raw beef, raw gammon or raw turkey. The vegetables aren't as good as before either. They've also changed the Yorkshire puddings and put the price up.
They either need to teach this current chef how to cook or bring back the previous chef.
After 3 rank inedible Sunday Carveries, we won't be going back again, unless we hear they've got their act together. It's a real shame as we are so disappointed we can't get a decent Sunday Carvery without paying the earth anymore in...
Read moreI have been going to this pub for a few years now with friends for gathering, catch ups and meals. We have been here a number of times with my friends child at time and since this year my own daughter. There is always a large number of us but we never cause any trouble and the children are also no trouble for example my daughter is in a pushchair and normally asleep, we spend a fair bit of money between us over food and drink and at the start of the year we had been in there until closing with our children as not often we all get together and no im not someone who always takes my child to the pub I am not getting drunk I drive but its not always easy for someone to get a baby sitter and has no choice to take them along. Also it not a regular thing, it's once in a blood moon in all honesty. But just wondering has there suddenly been a change since a few months back until now, as all of a sudden we are being told as we have a child with us we must leave at 9pm, but before I was in there way later with no-one saying a thing, specially as your advertised as a family place. I would have given more stars as your pub is lovely, food is great and good priced but this just suddenly changed with no real explanation just you must leave as you...
