Went here for dinner with friends last night. Food was great but atmosphere was very strange and rude. Felt like we were rushed the whole night and seemed like they were rushing everyone in there. Eventually we were the only ones at 10pm (closing time is officially 11pm) and they rang last rounds so we ordered a final drink. At 10:30pm they asked us to leave because they “wanted to close early to save electricity” seeing as we were the only ones left. They walked us out the door and the big guy that was evidently the manager (or owner?) locked the door behind us and turned off the outside lights of the pub, leaving us standing in the dark while waiting for our taxi, which we had only booked for 10:45pm. A very strange and downright rude experience. We’ll never be back and I recommend you find somewhere else as there are plenty of other great pubs around...
Read moreGreat menu and ambience. We visited casually for a drink looking for future places to pop back for dinner. It was clear however that casual drinkers were not being encouraged that evening. We were told there was no place to sit and all the tables were booked for diners by a somewhat over interested and slightly intimidating landlord who seemed to be hanging about front of house. He eventually allowed us to sit at a table when we said we were just popping in for a drink and weren't staying. We felt tolerated rather than welcome. Decor is a bit hit and miss inside - part refurbished part not. Menu looked interesting and food appeared well presented from what we could see and restaurant was busy at 7.30pm so popular locally. Sadly the attitude spoiled it...
Read moreThe Dukes head has got a gastro pub vibe, some lovely decor touches, warm & welcoming, clean and well maintained throughout. A couple of the staff seemed new, nethertheless they were attentive & helpful the whole time, the service was top notch!
Not an expansive menu, but defo something for all tastes. The risotto was top notch, as was the pork, however the tempura monkfish was disappointing, the coating was heavy & thick, more like a Chinese chicken ball batter, than a light water and flour tempura batter. The accompanying sauce was spicy but bland, it needed some seasoning to give it a bit more depth of flavour. I would have liked a drinks menu, which would have avoided the waitresses keep checking on what they sold,...
