After a fruitless day of fly fishing, my mentor, Liam, who had actually caught all the fish and left none for me to engage, took me to this pub. Obviously, I paid, but it was actually worth it! The pub has such a warm, inviting atmosphere, helped in part by the wood burning stove, and the staff are friendly too. They have the usual range of beers, wines, etc. I ordered a Black Russian for some reason. It was good. I wandered outdoors for a cigarette, and the outdoor seating and lay out was perfect. The backdrop of Yorkshire in the distance enhanced the view. Well, Yorkshire's always best when viewed from a distance, like, from Lancashire. Although I hadn't time to sample the food on this particular visit, I did see food exiting the kitchen, and it looked delicious, plus the aromas wafting through the place were divine. I did peek at a menu and it wasn't pretentious. Neither was it Run of the Mill gastropub fayre but seemed to be well thought out by a chef who liked cooking almost as much as cigarettes, alcohol and gambling 😁 To sum up: Definitely visit. It allows well behaved dogs, there are walks all around and it is friendly and just, well, cosy and nice.

I'll post...

Excellent pub probably has the best outdoor beer garden around, great location and great people who frequent here, and the food and beer is first class... That steak pudding chips peas and gravy was second to none I've ever had before, super friendly helpful girls serving and the guy that came out to check our food was satisfactory stopped and had a good chat with us, can't recommend this place enough, the next sunny day guaranteed we will be back had a great time...just want to note as well it was dog friendly i brought along my rottweiler as I didn't want him stuck in on a nice day like it was and he was all good, happy and content - lead hooked to the fence at the side of us, as they say your custom is as good as your hospitality

Thanks guys keep up...

Very hit and miss food, but big portions. Staff nice and friendly. It’s a locals pub really. Brown Cow Burger was really poor. Floppy bun, tiny patty, no garnish, sickly braised beef topping and plastic cheese. Our teenage nephew was likewise unimpressed. However family member had a good looking nicely pink rump steak, my wife had sausage and mash which she enjoyed. Veg sides clearly reheated in the microwave, with soggy broccoli. Ive had a steak pudding from there before which was good but it’s a bought in product. There was a steak pie on the special but the waitress said it was also suet which sounded odd. It’s got a big menu, they should concentrate on a few things and do them well, not try everything from burgers to Chinese...

Wow !! Impromptu visit for tea on a Thursday after work and what a fantastic place. Friendly welcome, buzzing atmosphere, drinks in the sun drenched beer garden then ushered to our table in the dining area. Our meals promptly arrived and the servers were pleasant, smiling and professional. Now to the food…… traditional country pub food that is all homemade and to a standard that is off the scale, truly delicious, well presented and of the best quality. Salt and pepper squid, house burger, steak pudding, all truly superb, we even had puddings, which I must say were delicious and…… THE best sticky toffee pudding I have ever eaten. This place is a MUST visit. 5* For one of us who had eaten the most, needed a lie down after leaving.

Excellent food, prompt service and a clean, tidy, comfy ambience. I should have read the menu thoroughly as they apparently offer 2 types of beef baguette - one which is carved roast beef with onions and gravy and one which is quick-fried steak with onions but no gravy. The second is twice the price. I didnt want gravy on my bread because it goes soggy. I also asked for my meat pink... And it's for this reason I've marked them down as surely they should have picked up that I was expecting it to be cooked to order. I ended up paying £18 for a steak baguette and I had to pay for both since it was my error.
