A warm welcome at this out-sales and sitting-in delicatessen and cafe with a variety of offerings on the menu: simple food, but to suit everyone’s taste, and at a reasonable price. I was especially impressed that there was a ‘Ploughman’s to Share’ on the menu for £15 but as there was only me they were willing to halve it and charge me appropriately - good service...and there was more than I expected even in a half portion so I was able to take some home! My only reservation is that the seating area and washroom facilities are up a step and may be a little inaccessible for people with restricted mobility, but this apart I fully recommend this as a stopping off place on a journey along the A59 or for a deliberate trip as a destination.

An adorable village deli with surprisingly lots of choice. I enjoy a good cup of tea from a teapot with a sticky flapjack. The sweet jars and ice creams are popular with the primary school children at the end of the school day. There are approx 7 tables to sit at - I’ve never had a problem finding a spare table in the afternoon. There’s also groceries available to buy and sweet treats, bottles of gin, etc, and cards to buy for gifts. There is a minimum spend of £5 if you want to pay by card, so I usually end up picking up some cat food or something to make up the £5.

It's a beautiful bakery/cafe with seating. The interior desifn is creative and warm. We had lattes, and a piece of almond cake and a piece of millionaire cake. Both were good but the almond cske was divine. The service is quick. There is a paid car park behind, in a nearby street and the village seems so lovely. Be careful with the cakes in plastic bags on the shelf. They are very expensive. Otherwise, the prices are totally acceptable. Families are welcome. Toilet is very clean.

I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now, usually riding in from Wigan during the summer. It used to be a decent little stop, but lately, the service has gone downhill—fast.

The staff are just plain rude now. I don’t know if it’s because we’re bikers or what, but the attitude is clear. Cold, unwelcoming, and miserable. Today was the last straw.

They’ve got some bizarre issue with people eating outside. Unless you specifically say you're eating outside, they don’t tell you you’ll be charged more. I always thought the extra fee applied only to eating inside. I buy my food, sit outside, and suddenly I’m being told—again—that I should have said something. Why? What's the logic? It feels like a trap to squeeze more money out of people who just want to enjoy their lunch in the sun.

And the staff today? Absolutely no excuse. The older lady behind the counter was downright nasty to a frail old man who just wanted a cheese pie. She wouldn’t even walk around to help him find it. Just stood there, blank-faced and unbothered. It was honestly hard to watch.

The younger woman wasn’t much better—snappy, passive-aggressive, just zero effort in basic customer service. If you don’t like bikers, say it. Put it on the website, slap a sign on the front door. Don’t take our money and then treat us like dirt.

This place has lost whatever charm it used to have. I won’t be coming back, and I’ll make sure my mates know not to...

This fantastic little place packs a real punch that belies its unassuming location and exterior. As a long distance cyclist it's come to my rescue on two occasions now - both in deep winter, firstly when road riding from Derbyshire to Settle and secondly when riding the Pennine Bridleway by MTB on my way to Kirkby Stephen. On the second (just last week) I arrived exhausted and covered in mud (and worse) and asked just for a hot drink to take outside as I didn't want to mess up their lovely furnishings. The staff would have none of this however, and found some newspapers for me to sit on ! So I was able to sit inside in the warm and enjoyed what I later told them was The Best BLT I had EVER HAD plus a fine refreshing cuppa and late a grand invigorating latte. Noone bothered about me taking 40 winks on the table in the corner either! What a place - a real gem, fantastic staff, service, attitude, decor (it looks really posh but is SO welcoming to scruffy folk like me!) quality food and drink. Go there, you won't be...
